This or That Tuesday

Before I answer this week’s This or That Tuesday questions, I’ve got a mini-rant about the people who participate. Not all of them, mind you, just the ones who answer with one word. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the point of this meme to learn more about the blogger? I don’t find one-word answers sufficient. I think people should elaborate when answering these so we can learn a little more about them. Otherwise, I think it’s a waste. Just an opinion from someone who doesn’t matter. Hehehe. And now, my answers …

1. Newspapers or magazines? Definitely magazines. I love Reader’s Digest, Discover, Popular Science, Women’s Day, etc. I’ll read the absolute crap (like Stuff) as well as the educational. I just love to read and learn. I’ll even read the newspaper at work when it’s available, but considering it’s usually bad news, I don’t go out of my way. Life can be depressing, that’s why I don’t watch the evening news.

2. Books-on-tape or regular books? Regular books. I’ve never tried books on tape, but I think they’d be kinda cool if I was on a long road trip.

3. Paperback or hardcover? For portability sake, I tend to choose paperbacks.

4. Fiction or non-fiction? A little bit of both. In fact, over the last several years, I’ve read nothing but non-fiction. Lately, I’ve gotten back into reading for pure enjoyment, and have found myself reading a lot of Dean Koontz and (horror of all horrors) Danille Steele.

5. Sci-Fi/Fantasy or romance novels? Hmmm … a good story is a good story, whatever you call it, so I don’t really choose any particular genre.

6. Borrow from library or buy books (either new or used)? I usually borrow them from the library. I rarely read the same book twice, so I see no point in wasting money buying books, although I’ll get a paperback for $5 from Walmart when we’re going on a road trip.

7. Subscribe to magazines or buy on newsstand? I subscribe to the magazines I like because they are soooo much cheaper. I’m getting a bit aggravated with our mailman, though. I don’t pay for a subscription so he can fold my magazine in half, leaving a permanent crease in it. And why does it always happen to the one magazine I archive (Outdoor Photographer) instead of the ones I read and then throw away?

8. Current best-sellers or classic literature? I tend to gravitate toward the best-sellers, if only because they are more noticeable. Plus I think I got my fill of the classics when I was in high school.

9. Read books once, or re-read favorites every so often? I usually only read books once, though if I wait long enough, I can re-read them and not remember every aspect of the story.

10. Here in the U.S., we have two hot best-sellers…former First Lady Hillary Clinton’s memoirs, and the new Harry Potter book (coming out June 21). If you had to read one, which one…Hillary or Harry? Why? How about neither because they just don’t float my boat.
