Birds of a feather

June 19th, 2003

20030619-cardinal.jpg The elusive cardinal. I see them from time to time, but they are so jumpy – any movement at all and they fly away. So this picture is bad (hence why I had to shrink it down so much), because I had to sneak and get the bugger from a distance. I swear he teases me with his pretty chirps that are distinctly different than any other birds. I heard him well before I spotted him.

I also caught a glimpse of a mama duck and her babies. They came waddling over, but the second she saw me there (on the patio, filling up our bird feeder), she took off, with the little ones quickly following behind. I’ve got the camera all ready in case they come back. I should get the tripod out of the trunk of my car, but I’m too lazy for that kinda effort.

Now if only I could get a bluebird. I’ve seen only one this year, flying across the street when I was coming home from work. So gorgeous, I wish they visited my feeder instead of the crappy sparrows.
