I finally got around to seeing Lost in Translation today. I had been contemplating ordering it on ppv for the past two weeks, but came across it on dvd at the library. Even better, seeing it for free.

To be perfectly honest, I was expecting this to suck. You know, since it got all this hype and whatnot. But it was interesting. It wasn’t a movie I could see owning, or even watching again, but I enjoyed it. I’ve always liked Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johanson was good too.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the ending. It seemed so blah. Where’s my closure? Also, and I’m opening comments for this, does anyone know what Bob said to Charlotte at the end? It’s bugging me!

Hey, comments! I’ve never watched it, but my mom said the same thing. She didn’t like it at all, and said the ending was very blah. And thanks for mentioning the library – I haven’t been in such a long time and I really should head over to check out DVDs and books on CD!

  2. According to the director, it is purposely unclear so that you can have it mean whatever you want. I hate that!

It’s funny that I read this post yesterday and went home and saw a VH1 thing on Bill Murray and his role in that movie. Even showed the ending where he whispers in her ear. I thought of you! But I still didn’t know what the hell he said. I guess I need to go rent it now.

i love that movie… everyone i’ve talked to has said it sucked… i think it’s because they didn’t want to understand it. i was just mesmerized by the scenery. i love Japan.

Bill Murray improvised the whisper in the ear at the end, and it’s purposefully inaudible. I love this movie, too.
