Mortgage PITAs #3

September 21st, 2004

A little update on the ongoing school loan saga, (see Part 1 & Part 2) in case you’re interested. I spoke with the loan processor on Thursday and she tried to calm me down and said she’d order a credit clean-up to get that condition cleared on the mortgage. Apparently the mere terminology on the report that states “paid or being paid” is causing issues. She assured me I’d hear from her on Friday. I didn’t. Nor did I hear from her on Monday. So I emailed her today and got this response, verbatim – “Actually I called credco yesterday and they said they are still working on and will send when complete thanks. :)”

Oooo-kay. In the meantime, I’ve done my own research. I visited the U.S. Department of Education website and requested a PIN, which I received over the weekend. From there I was able to access the National Student Loan Data System site where I was able to retrieve my loan records which state I did in fact pay them in full in August 1997. I printed, and PDF’d those puppies in case the mortgage company gives me more hassels.

I really wish I could remember what other site I visited the other day where I called the toll-free # and the clueless girl on the other end told me that there was no central database with loan info. I’d like to give her the web address. Isn’t the internet a wonderful thing?
