Southpark: Is it time to cancel it?

I’ve grown disappointed with South Park lately after seeing the last two most recent episodes.

I’m all for crude humor, even stuff that can be considering disgusting, but the stuff in these episodes goes beyond disgusting and into a whole new realm of unnecessary gore. Sure, it’s just a cartoon, but it seems as if it’s now done merely for shock value. And if I’m getting squeamish from a cartoon, I think there’s something wrong.

I wouldn’t have as much of a problem with it if it added some value to the plot, but it doesn’t. It’s as if they’ve run out of good ideas for the show and instead of being insightful and poking fun in their normal way, they are being more obvious and crude to make the same point over and over and over again. Not to say they were exactly subtle before, but it definitely wasn’t banging you over the head like it is now. It’s as if they assume their audience is too stupid to get it.

Personally, I was worried when I found out South Park would share the same time slot as The Newlyweds, but I don’t think it’s an issue now as I doubt I’ll be watching South Park anymore. It has lost its appeal for me. Even Cartman is dull and predictable.

My favorite cartoons at the moment are Home Movies, Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Master Shake rules!), and O’Grady (new episodes starting April 1st, finally).

  1. I have to agree with you. We’ve stopped watching South Park now, too. Last season was good, as usual, but this season it’s like they crossed some line where nothing is too outrageous, shocking, gory, disgusting or tasteless. The biggest change is that even with all of that in the previous seasons, it’s just not funny this season.
