Day #2

Another exhausting day is behind us. First we packed up the van and hauled some stuff over to the new place. Then we went to Lowes and bought 7 gallons of paint in various colors. Afterwards we braved the early afternoon crowd at Walmart. The lines were INSANE, but we needed primer (or more like thought we needed it, but since we didn’t use it, we could have waited until tomorrow … oh well). We also grabbed lunch before Walmart, so we didn’t start working on the place until 1 pm or so.

What we got accomplished –

Moldings taken off the perimeter of the kids’ bedrooms
Wallpaper completely removed from the boy’s bedroom
Kitchen cabinets cleaned inside and out
Wash machine cleaned inside
Dish washer cleaned
Pantry shelving cleaned

Doesn’t seem like a lot, but the wallpaper thing was quite time consuming. My whole body aches at the moment. It really sucks that I have to work this week because I’d love to spend the whole week cleaning and whatnot. I have a huge list of things to get done tomorrow and we have to break to drive down to the mattress store to pick up the twin mattresses we ordered for the kids.

Hopefully we’ll get an earlier start since we only need to make a quick stop to Walmart and Home Depot to pick out some Pergo for the dining room and carpeting for the living room. It turns out the living room carpet is a lot more stained than we originally thought. Not that we weren’t going to replace it, but now it’s a bigger priority.

Oh and we have to buy new molding because the previous owners used these long nails in it so it breaks when you pull it off the wall.

And we’re in

I’m exhausted and I barely did anything today. I got out of work at 11:30 am and headed home to have lunch with Joe. As we were leaving to do some shopping, our realtor called to say we should be able to get the keys at 1 pm, 2 pm the latest. So we went over to the mall (which is my favorite of all the malls in the tri-state area) by our new place to kill some time.

2 pm came and went. So did 3 pm. As did 4 pm. In the meantime, we visited a bunch of mall stores, Harlem Room Place where the guy from last time stalked us as we looked at a sectional, K-Mart, and the nifty new Super Target which is so sweet.

We were both getting really antsy and frustrated that it was getting later and we hadn’t heard anything, so we decided to have dinner. As we were ordering our food at T.G.I. Friday’s, our realtor finally called to say the people were out of the place, so we made plans to meet up around 5:30 pm.

Everything was as it should be, and we could see that they had cleaned the place pretty good. Of course, clean to most people is not the same clean to me. So while Joe swept out the garage and started tearing down the wallpaper in his son’s room, I CLEANED the refrigerator. Let me just say that it is CLEAN now. It’s really cool, and I’m looking forward to using it because it is a side-by-side with a water and ice dispenser and it CRUSHES the ice. How cool is that?

So we spent about two hours at the new place. We stopped at Blockbuster and got The Day After Tomorrow so we’re gonna watch that and pass out. Tomorrow is going to be a VERY busy day.

Time to go bye-bye

You know your upstairs neighbors’ tv is too loud when you can tell they are watching South Park. So I turned it on. Might as well.

I’m so glad we get the keys to our place tomorrow. I am SO excited! I hope I can sleep tonight.

Commercial break – my neighbors just started stomping around and one of them went into the bathroom.

Yea, it’s time to move.

Discover how much Walmart Online’s Customer Service sucks

I have a killer headache. Thank you Walmart Online.

So I got replacement Discover cards in the mail the other day because Joe’s card was literally falling apart. I forgot to activate them. So I’m online this morning, trying to order our new bedroom set and decide to call Discover to change my address so when I give Walmart the new address, I won’t have any problems.

Discover makes the change and I go back to my online order. Then I start thinking, “Hmmm … maybe I should use the new expiration date from the new cards since I’m going to activate them tonight when I get home.” So I try that, but I keep getting an error and then it locks me out and won’t let me use that card to place my order.

I contemplate going home to activate the new cards and try again, but the laziness factor wins and I don’t. During lunch, a call comes in on my cell but I don’t answer it because I don’t recognize the number. I get a new voicemail, so I check it and it’s from Discover’s fraud protection department asking me to call them right away. So I call the number on the back of my card and get automatically transferred to that department. The women who answers says they saw some suspicious activity on the account and asks if I tried ordering from Walmart Online. I explained what happened and she said she’d activate my new cards for me.

When I get home I try placing my order again, but it’s still giving me an error. Before it locks me out, I call the activation # just in case to make sure the new cards are in effect because as it turns out, the 3-digit security code is different on the new cards. But the site still gives me an error, stating that the information I’m providing and the info the credit card company has on file doesn’t match. I triple-check everything and it all matches, so I call Discover and the guy says maybe the address change hasn’t really taken affect yet in their database and that it will do so at midnight tonight/tomorrow. He suggests I call Walmart and explain and see if they can push the order through for me.

I get some really smart chick at Walmart Online who informs me that she can’t do anything more than what I’m trying to do online. Ok, so what are they paying her for exactly? She then suggests I just give the wrong/old address when placing the order. Well why would I do that when by tomorrow it will be updated anyway? So I say sarcastically to her, “Well I guess I just won’t place an order with Walmart then” and she replies, “Ok, so is there anything else I can help you with?” and I yell, “You didn’t help me to begin with!” and she starts her little “Thank you for calling” exit line and I hang up on her.

Sheesh. All I want is some bedroom furniture. Look how pretty it is!

Packing has begun

I started packing yesterday because I just can’t wait. At least if I box things up it might speed the next two weeks along. Joe caught the excitement from me and now wants to pack also. LOL!

It’s really weird to look at a bare refrigerator (I took off all the magnets).

I think today I will tackle his filing system. Hopefully he’s at least somewhat organized. :)
