Remember how I said my spice rack sucks? Well I take it back because suck it will no more, in a couple of days when I get my nifty new spice jars. I bought an empty one from Bed Bath & Beyond over the weekend, but they only carry ones with white caps and the huge shaker holes. The Spice Barn carries black covers and you get to pick what size holes the shaker has. Very cool. I ordered 18 jars since that’s how many would fit the rack. I also went to another site and ordered some labels. If I was artistically inclined, I’d design my own, but I’m not so I won’t. I am excited to get my spice rack all set up. Organization and I are best friends.

Mortgage PITAs #3
A little update on the ongoing school loan saga, (see Part 1 & Part 2) in case you’re interested. I spoke with the loan processor on Thursday and she tried to calm me down and said she’d order a credit clean-up to get that condition cleared on the mortgage. Apparently the mere terminology on the report that states “paid or being paid” is causing issues. She assured me I’d hear from her on Friday. I didn’t. Nor did I hear from her on Monday. So I emailed her today and got this response, verbatim – “Actually I called credco yesterday and they said they are still working on and will send when complete thanks. :)”
Oooo-kay. In the meantime, I’ve done my own research. I visited the U.S. Department of Education website and requested a PIN, which I received over the weekend. From there I was able to access the National Student Loan Data System site where I was able to retrieve my loan records which state I did in fact pay them in full in August 1997. I printed, and PDF’d those puppies in case the mortgage company gives me more hassels.
I really wish I could remember what other site I visited the other day where I called the toll-free # and the clueless girl on the other end told me that there was no central database with loan info. I’d like to give her the web address. Isn’t the internet a wonderful thing?
I’m not packed and I don’t care
We’ve got less than a month before we move, and before you ask, no, we have not started packing. I’m getting rather tired of everyone giving me grief over it too. I don’t get why people care so much, plus it’s irritating when they tell me I’m going to regret it. No, what I’d regret is having to live out of boxes for the next three and a half weeks while we wait for the moving date. Plus seeing as how we have a small place, where are these boxes going to go when we need all the space for the kids to sleep? Sometimes I really hate how other people think they know better than I do about my own situation. Seeing as how we have both the new place and our apartment for two weeks, I think we can manage packing “last minute”. I’ve done this before, and I know what I’m doing.
That being said, someone also mentioned that now is a good time to throw things out. I wholeheartedly agree, however there’s really nothing I want to get rid of because I do my best not to collect a bunch of crap I’m never going to use again. I did do a total reorganization of all my files today in order to free up some space for Joe’s files which are currently in his desk since he’s giving it to one of the kids. There’s something incredibly satisfying about throwing out a big bag of shredded documents.
Mortgage PITAs #2
Aha, I DO have some paperwork from my loan! Damn, I’m good, I save everything! Well everything except the proof I actually paid the loans off, of course. The balance on the credit correction shows $0, though, so what more do these people want? Grrr. I need to calm down.
Mortgage PITAs
Grrr … now I can see why closings never go smoothly. I’m aggravated with my mortgage company already. When I met our loan officer almost a month ago, I brought with me the paperwork from the credit bureau, detailing the correction to my credit. For whatever reason, my two student loans resurfaced this year after not even being on my credit report for years. It looks like the accounts got bought by a new company and they had the status of the loans as open even though I know they were paid immediately after I left school (their amounts were $3000 total and I paid one and my grandparents paid the other).
So the other day my loan officer asks me if I have any paperwork about the loan status being updated. I reminded her about the paperwork she copied when we met but apparently she claims to have sent her only copy to the head office and it got lost. So I faxed a copy again to her today.
Well, I just got an email from her saying I need a letter stating the loans are either paid or in the process of being paid. I guess suddenly the credit correction isn’t good enough? Not only that, but she didn’t say who she needs the letter from. Me? The loan company? And how are they going to write a letter on my behalf when I don’t even know who to contact? I don’t think I even have the proof it was paid off anymore. It was almost ten years ago.
I’m going to be really upset if this jacks up our closing, which is two weeks away, because THEY sat on the issue for a month. I have done all I can to keep on top of this but you know, as soon as I paid my application fee and they knew they had me as a client they were a lot less responsive and took their time returning my calls. I left the actual loan processor a voicemail last week and she never even called me back, which I pointed out in my reply to their email asking for the letter.
Maybe I’m blowing this out of proportion but I can’t stand incompetence, nor can I stand being put under pressure when they are the ones who are disorganized.
