Nothing

Want to know how lazy I am? I spent the entire day either sleeping or watching tv. I didn’t do a single thing that was productive. I really need to move and start my “new life” to get my ass in gear. I’ve really started slacking in all areas lately because I feel like I’m just spinning my heels until October 15th which CAN’T COME SOON ENOUGH.

Speaking of moving, I had to laugh when I was talking to a coworker yesterday regarding the townhome he purchased and when I asked if he was going to paint the rooms, he told me he couldn’t afford it. I had to educate him on how inexpensive it is to paint and how much of a difference it makes. He then asked me, “Do you think I could repaint the entire inside for less than $700?” LOL! Um, yea buddy, I sure think you can. I should have told him that I’d paint his place for $500 to save him some money. Damn, another missed opportunity. Thinking on my feet is not my strong suit.

In a Galaxy Far Far Away

After visiting pretty much every furniture store in the tri-state area over the past few weeks, I have to say that I really hate furniture sales people. They are so pushy and annoying. The ones I hate the most are the ones that will silently follow you around the store. I feel like I’m prey being stalked by a lion. I hate that feeling. It makes me go quickly through the store and then leave.

That being said, we did find a bedroom set we liked at Bay Furniture today. I’m hesitant to purchase it now, even though it would be a special order not due to arrive for eight weeks, because what if something goes wrong and we don’t end up with the house? It’s highly unlikely, but you never know. I wouldn’t want to be stuck with $2000 worth of furniture and nowhere to put it. Furthermore, I just found an identical set on Walmart’s site for even less money. All seven pieces are only $1536 as opposed to a little over $2000. So as long as it remains available in the next two months, we should be ok. If not, I’m sure we’ll find something just as nice elsewhere. Mission-style furniture seems to be very popular and we like it a lot.

We finally told the kids about the townhome this weekend and showed them pictures of the place. The girl was so cute, saying stuff like “that’s a really nice dining room”. LOL! She was especially excited about having her own room and a ‘kids only’ bathroom. The boy didn’t care as much until I mentioned that he’d be able to keep all of Joe’s old Star Wars toys in his closet. That got his attention!

I asked the kids which one of them wanted the Care Bears I collect in their room, and I was surprised when they both said they did. I was pretty sure the girl would think they were too baby-ish. But that’s cool. I don’t know why I’m so obsessed with collecting them all, but I am. I currently own 9 of them, the two most recent additions being Cozy Heart Penguin and Loyal Heart Dog. I grew up with a bunch of Care Bear toys, so maybe it’s some deep-seated need to re-live my childhood.

Oh and speaking of Star Wars, we just found out today while at Walmart that they are re-releasing a bunch of the old toys, like the Millennium Falcon. It looks just like the original one too, which is cool. Joe has the original, but it’s old and dirty. They also have the cool figurine holding cases, and since Joe already has Darth Vader, we were thinking of getting his son the C3-PO one for Christmas so he’d have both.

Week In Review

Thursday I spent the evening out with two former coworkers, one of which I haven’t seen in over a year. We met at her house to have dinner. She made us some yummy lasagna. Afterwards, I drove us all to the local mall (the same mall that will be MY local mall once we move) to do some ceramic painting. I made this for one of the bathrooms in our new place. I want to have an ocean theme. After painting, we went back to our friend’s place to have dessert. By the time I got home, it was after 10 pm and I was exhausted. I just cannot do the social thing on weeknights. Call me old, but it’s just too tiring.

Case in point, Friday Joe and I just hung out at home and did laundry. Saturday was more fun as we did some shopping. We bought a bunch of supplies for stripping the wallpaper in the new place, as well as for painting the walls. In addition, I picked up this awesome cd rack at The Container Store. It holds 360 cds and I was a bit shocked to see I own that many. I knew it was around 300, but I wasn’t aware it was over that. I like how it looks having all my cds in one place instead of spread between the bookshelf and the rotating cd holder I had before. It also frees up the bookcase for more dvd storage.

Today we did some more shopping and found the sectional we may be buying. I can’t decide, though, because I really liked the idea of a plum-colored couch, but this one is so comfy. It’s really cool – The left side reclines and the right side is a sleeper sofa, plus each side has a space to store remotes and one back cushion folds down for use as a drink holder. It’s on sale until mid-September, plus the place will hold it for free until we move so we can get the sale price, so we have time to think about it. I’m so indecisive about these things!

I feel like we’ve been spending money like water lately. It’s all being spent on things we need and were planning on buying anyway, but it feels weird to be spending so much in such a small time frame. We dropped over $150 at Walmart over the weekend with all the supplies, plus decorative items for the kids’ bathroom (I’m doing a rubber ducky theme). It’s so fun getting new things, though. I went to Micheal’s and got a very cute Harvest-themed welcome sign for our new front door as well as some notepads on clearance for my obsessive list-making. I still need to order some things online, not to mention we need bedroom furniture and a dining room table. Moving is expensive when you have more space than furniture. Not that I’m complaining. I need space; I’m suffocating over here!

Things

  • I have a huge headache and need some sleep. Bedtime is early tonight.
  • We’re moving on Oct 15th.
  • My doctor’s office worked wonders and my Discovercard was credited the $481 I paid for blood work I had done in January of this year. Feels like I won the lottery!
  • This one woman at my place of employment is RUDE. I was having lunch with a friend when one of her friends, completely uninvited, sat down at our table, interrupting me, and started talking about herself to the other girl like I wasn’t even there. Ten minutes later she left to have a cigarette. WTF?
  • I decided to buy the wire letter holder thing (see previous entry) because it matches our napkin holder, plus I found an online store that sells a matching paper towel holder and spice rack. Yes, this kind of stuff now excites me.
  • This stoup is delicious but be warned – unless you’re an expert chopper, it will take longer to prepare the ingredients for this meal than it says. Plus it forgets to mention what to do with the kidney beans (I put them in while adding the chicken stock).

Mail sorter thing

Why is it so incredibly difficult to find one of these that either doesn’t have a bunch of decorations on it, or is made of wire? I want a nice plain wood one for the kitchen wall in our new place. Could it be because no one knows what to call it? I’ve searched under letter organizer, hanging letter sorter, wall mail holder, key holder, etc. and the closest thing I’ve been able to find is one from LL Bean for $70 which I refuse to pay.

If you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. I can’t find any at the store and I’ve looked at Home Depot, The Great Indoors, Walmart, and Office Depot. Online I’ve checked Target, Office Max, Staples, and even Ebay. Am I the only one who thinks these things are super neat? Am I an organizational freak?
