Louder!

Whenever the kids are playing Tekken on the Playstation, they tend to get quite loud, esp. the boy. They scream in excitement and all that. Normally, we’d ask them to quiet down. But you know what? I’ve had it with the loud upstairs neighbors and the barking dog across the hall. So let’s see how they like it. The kids can scream away for all I care. And I know those buttholes are home, because I hear them walking around up there. It might be my imagination, but I think I may have heard some pounding going on. Haha.

Gag Me

So I went out on our patio to water the flowers, and almost gagged from the smell of the perfume/air freshener coming out of the upstairs neighbor’s apartment. It’s disgusting how overpowering and thick the scent is. In fact, I can taste it in my throat right now. Lovely. So now I can’t even sit out on my patio when they’ve got their balcony door open. Is there no end to how much they disturb me? Unlikely. I feel bad for the two cats that live there. That smell has got to be overwhelming them. It amazes me how people can live like that. I really wish they’d find a house and move out.

I can’t wait to move

I swear to god, my neighbors walk around even more now that they know it irritates us. And riddle me this – how does one manage to walk (or more like stomp) around a one-bedroom apartment for hours on end with a sense of urgency? That’s exactly what it sounds like all the freakin time – like they are briskly walking from room to room grabbing things as if they’re running late going somewhere. Except they never seem to go anywhere. When I was home all day on Tuesday, they were too (at least one of them). Is it bad to wish bad things to happen to them? Like they get a bad case of botulism? Or I am able to ram my big red toothbrush up their nose, into their skull? Or are these perfectly normal feelings?

* Did you catch both movie references in there?

Exhausted isn’t the word

Remember that entry I wrote previously? Well, about an hour later I decided to go to bed because I was feeling like crap. Joe joined me because he was a bit tired too. Well, I tossed and turned for the next hour and a half thanks to my upstairs neighbors, whom as you may recall, walk back and forth constantly. I was in tears from frustration. I tried sleeping on the couch, but since they enjoy walking from the living room to the bedroom constantly, I got no relief. And Joe? He was just snoring away!

Finally around 10:30 pm, after having tried to go to sleep for TWO HOURS, I was irate. I woke Joe up, and we ran to Walgreens to get some earplugs. I bought several varieties, and am contemplating sending the neighbors a bill for them as they refuse to let our management company pull up their carpeting and tighten the floorboards. They’ve lived there for eight years, and from what I was told, they are contemplating moving out when their lease is up. Problem is, it’s not up until early next year. In the meantime, I’ve got to deal with the incessant squeaking and stomping, not to mention the guy who drops the toilet seat every time he’s done going to the bathroom. I’m contemplating rigging my sub-woofer to the ceiling to see how THEY like constant noise.

As for the earplugs, I have them in at the moment, but Joe tells me they’ve stopped moving around finally. So I’m not sure how effective they will be, but I’m getting really tired of having to adjust my sleep schedule around them, esp. because they only get like six hours a night which is not enough for me, and probably why I’ve felt terrible ever since I got home from work.

The only other option we have is to let the maintenance guys come into our apartment, drill holes in the ceiling, and tighten the floorboards from there. But we have to pinpoint the location of the noise and seeing how it seems to come from everywhere, that’s not so easy. I can’t see why those people can’t be decent neighbors and let them tighten the floorboards from up there as it would be much easier for the apartment management. If I were in their shoes, I’d do it even though it would be an inconvenience to me. Why? Because I am considerate of other people. Imagine that! Apparently in this day and age that’s a whole new concept that people just don’t get. And now that they know we’re experiencing such a disturbance, you’d think they’d cut back on all the walking but two hours straight isn’t cutting back if you ask me.

So of course I am overtired and crabby. Have you ever gotten this way? Where you feel exhausted but are wide awake? That would be how I feel at the moment. It would be nice to eat something to help put me to sleep but seeing how I have that acid reflux disease, I can’t. It’s already worse than normal due to stress at work.

How ironic that I’ll end up getting LESS sleep than usual on the day where I really needed more.

I wish you’d just sit down

It’s really not good for one’s mood to start the day infuriated, which is what I am right now. This marks the second day this week where I’ve been forced to get up a half hour earlier than I’d like to thanks to the upstairs neighbors.

When I mentioned in passing to a woman in our management office that the floorboards above us, particularly in the bedroom, seemed to creak abnormally loud, she said she’d put in a maintenance request. As it was explained to me, over time the floorboards got loose, and they could tighten them to prevent so much noise. That was two weeks ago, and I didn’t notice any difference. So the other day I submitted a maintenance request of my own.

The maintenance man left me a message saying he’d look into it for me. He explained that they usually don’t tighten the floorboards until a resident moves out. Lot of good that does me, considering the fact that in a prior conversation, he said that our upstairs neighbors had lived there for several years. In his message he said he’d see how receptive they were to moving their furniture out of the way so they could do the work. Somehow I doubt they will be. Personally, I don’t think they should have a choice in the matter. I pay just as much rent (probably more) than they do, and I have the right to get a decent night’s rest.

Plus they walk around excessively. I’m not joking. One night Joe and I laid in bed and listened as they walked back and forth for no less than two hours straight. WTF? How does someone walk from their kitchen/living room to their bedroom again and again and again in a 800 square apartment for two hours? I just don’t get it. And you’d think the woman weighed 500 lbs. from the type of noise she makes, when in fact she could weigh no more than 110 lbs. (I’ve seen her). I think she walks heel first or something.

I’m going to ask my manager today if I can move my shift to start (and subsequently leave) a half hour earlier. If I’m going to be getting up at 6 am anyway, I might as well benefit from it in some way. I really can’t wait to get a house.
