Catching Up With Fall Fun

Here’s what we’ve been up to this month.

Sponge Bob Witch Pants & Patrick Vampire Go Trick or Treating

October 9th we went to the annual Scarecrow Festival in St. Charles, Illinois. It was a beautiful day – not too hot, and not too cold. We enjoyed walking around the area, but afterward we could not decide where to eat so we ended up getting discounted burgers at the Tastee Freeze nearby. I really wish there were more restaurants on the Fox River because it was a perfect day to enjoy lunch outside.

Happy Halloween sign

October 16th we took the kids to Sonny Acres Farm for our annual visit. K and I both got walking tacos like we always do. E is more particular, so we prepared PB&J sandwiches for him to bring along. After we bored of walking around, we went to Danada Equestrian Center for a hayride. Later that afternoon we attended a wake for a former coworkers of Joe’s who passed away. Poor guy had only been retired a year and a half. So sad. Afterward we took the kids to IHOP for dinner where I have some very yummy Nutella crepes. After dinner we took the Gallery of Ghoulish Homes Tour in St. Charles. This year K wasn’t keen on the live actors so we didn’t get out of the car like we usually do.

Carousel

October 21st we visited Brookfield Zoo for the first time in five years since it was a free day and we took some time off from work. I hadn’t realized that much time had passed! They’ve added a very large carousel to the zoo, as well as redid the bear exhibit, moving the grizzlies and polar bears to the area that used to be known as Regenstein Wolf Woods. Now the area is called Great Bear Wilderness. They did a really nice job and that area of the zoo looks updated like many of the other zoos we’ve visited recently. The big cats were off exhibit because they are working on their habitat now. I wish they could have moved them to the now empty bear enclosures while they work but I guess they have their reasons.

Joe’s still working on the remodel of the kids’ bathroom. The tub is in and most of the walls too so it’s getting there.

Today we decided to make an unplanned trip to Cosley Zoo and learned they started charging admission in July ($3 per person). We decided to buy an annual membership for $55 because it includes free/discounted admission to other zoos across the country including the ones we’re planning on visiting next year in Ohama, Des Moines, and Seattle. Score!

Carved Pumpkins

Tonight we carved pumpkins which came out much better than I expected. I can’t believe this awesome holiday is almost over. My only regret is not getting a chance to go on a haunted hayride with friends. Maybe next year.

  1. Loving your Jack Skellington (is that right?) pumpkin. Both look great but that one in particular is pretty sweet – great job!
