Taxes & Vacations

Well the taxes are all done and me not so happy. I didn’t get as much back from Federal as I got last year, and I actually have to pay the State (albeit $2, but still). :p I guess it’s just a difference of getting the money before instead of after since I claimed “1” this year as opposed to “0”.

However, Joe is getting a nice return AND a lovely bonus from work. So we’re going to pay off my car, save some more money, and also go on vacation. Nothing huge, but a couple of short road trips and maybe a longer one. For the latter we were considering Colorado as the destination, but we’re not sure. We want some place we can drive to within a day or so, and has something really fun to do once we get there. We’ve never been to Colorado before, so I think it would be cool.

We’re up to suggestions, however. Just nothing more than 1000 miles from Chicago, please. Oh, and none of the states in red below as we’ve already been there, done that. :)

  1. Two years ago, I went to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. Last summer we went to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. I don’t know if you’re into the national park thing but you may enjoy them since you’re a photography person. That’s why I went. However, if you do go, I wouldn’t recommend just winging it on the hotel reservations. We tried to do that and it was impossible to find places. Definitely book ahead of time.

There’s always the corn palace and Wall Drug, too. ;)

  2. Sounds like a nice plan with the bonus and return! I’ve already mentally spent my return on a purse, and tonight Scott left me drooling about the bonuses he’ll be getting in the near future. I’m going to spend his money, but it left me rather jealous! I wish I worked somewhere that understood the meaning of bonus. Or raise. I’d take either ;)
