Sunday Brunch: I Don’t Wanna Grow Up

1. Do you watch cartoons? Sometimes. I love South Park and will watch the occasional episode of the Simpsons, plus I enjoy the Pixar movies, but it’s not a daily thing except the weekends the kids are here.

2. Ever buy a box of cereal (for yourself) just for the prize inside? Can’t say that I have.

3. Do you ever go to the playground to play on the swings, slide or teeter totter? There used to be this little playground in Joe’s old neighborhood where we’d stop on an evening walk. It had a tire swing and he’d spin me around until I was dizzy. That’s a very fond memory.

4. Do you occasionally pout, throw tantrums or cry to get what you want? No, but I used to do that a lot when I was a kid. I was the pouting queen! Now I feel that’s too immature. Besides, I usually do get my way. Hmmm … I guess I’m a control freak. Well, that and Joe is just so easy going that I make a lot of the decisions.

5. How long has it been since you’ve done childlike (for example: ride a bike, play marbles, jump rope, build a sand castle)? Hmmm … I wouldn’t classify bike riding as a childlike activity. But as for the others … it’s been a long time. I love playing in sand, though! I had a sandbox at my grandparents’ when I was young and I played in that thing every day. Those were the days.

This week’s Friday Five:

1. Are you superstitious? A little bit, but not to the point I let it control me.

2. What extremes have you heard of someone going to in the name of superstition? Can’t think of anything at the moment.

3. Believer or not, what’s your favorite superstition? I don’t know if you’d say it’s my favorite, but the one that I can’t forget is when my mom told me that if you’re looking into a mirror in the dark, and say Bloody Mary three times, a demon will come out of the mirror and grab you. And when do I think of this? At night when I’m washing my hands in the dark bathroom after using the bathroom. Nice.

4. Do you believe in luck? If yes, do you have a lucky number/article of clothing/ritual? I believe in fate more than luck. I don’t currently own any “lucky items” but I did have a rabbit’s foot when I was in grade school.

5. Do you believe in astrology? Why or why not? I read my horoscope and when I was in high school I’d read those astrology books and fantasize about this one guy who was a Virgo since it said Virgos went well with Capricorns. I believe that some of the traits found in signs seem to be accurate but mostly I think it’s all in fun.

This week’s Sunday Brunch:

1. Cash, check or charge? I charge everything to my Discover card and pay it in full every month. It makes it easier to keep track of finances and I get cash back rewards so I’m always getting free stuff like movie rentals, dinner at Red Lobster, or stuff from Bed Bath and Beyond. Surprisingly enough, charging everything doesn’t cause us to spend more money than we have.

2. Who or what do you spend most of your money on? Well like everyone else, the majority of our income goes towards regular monthly expenses like rent, groceries, utilities, the car, and insurance. We also put as much money as possible into savings so we can start looking for a house next year.

3. How often do you shop for yourself? Every weekend, probably. We usually get a little “toy” here and there. Nothing big really – a dvd, some new clothes, whatever.

4. One television commercial says the average American has 14 credit cards… are you average, above average or below average? Way below average. I have three credit cards and I really only use one of them.

5. If you could take one paycheck and just have fun with it, what would you do? Either buy a new digital camera or go on vacation.

But not a dollar short. We went to the mall and I returned the dress from Marshall Field’s. I’m not going to need that dress until the summer and I will definitely be wearing a much smaller size by then, so there was no point in keeping it. I think I’m starting to like JC Penny again – I got a nice zipper-up fleece for $17 which is normally $50. It’s so soft and warm and will work well to replace the black sweater I normally wear at work. It’s totally falling apart and needed replacing. So that’s two great items in two weeks that I’ve purchased from JC Penny (the dress I kept being #1).

Anyway … here is yesterday’s Friday Five:

What one thing are you most looking forward to . . .

1. …today? Cuddling with Joe on the couch.

2. …over the next week? Going to the holiday party at the museum.

3. …this year? Visiting new places and taking weekend trips.

4. …over the next five years? Buying a house and hopefully getting married.

5. …for the rest of your life? Being with Joe and growing old together.
