Dentist, Biking, and Early Father’s Day

Friday the certified Whirlpool repair service came by to replace the cracked piece on our dishwasher. All is now right with the world (well, at least as far as that is concerned). Their service is quite nice to deal with – they call the night before to give a window, and the guy calls the next morning when he’s about 20 minutes away. Everyone is really nice. It’s refreshing dealing with a company that respects the customer’s time.

Later in the morning we both went to the dentist for a cleaning. With our new Marketplace dental insurance we had to pay $15 each for the cleaning and x-rays which I guess isn’t terrible. I wasn’t even yelled at for not flossing!

We did a little shopping after the dentist and then had a late lunch at Chipotle. They have the best guacamole!

Mallard Lake Forest Preserve

Saturday we got up early and took the bikes to Mallard Lake forest preserve for an early morning ride. We arrived around 7:30 and rode for approximately 45 minutes. We would have gone longer had the trails not started getting so crowded. I was surprised by how many people were out fishing too.

We ran to Aldi’s for a few things later in the afternoon and got iced teas from Dunkin Donuts. I got peach and Joe got the green tea. This is the second time I’ve gotten one of their iced teas and I must say I’m not that impressed. Starbucks’ is way better, although far pricier. The DD teas are only $1 from 2-6 pm.

We spent the evening at my parents’ house celebrating Father’s Day. We had pizza and played Aggravation before leaving around 11 am. On the way home we were listening to the radio and I was surprised to come across Q101 which was playing all EDM as part of their Electric Playground series which airs from 10pm-2am every Saturday. I ended up downloading the IHeartRadio app when we got home and listening to more of the broadcast since I had trouble falling asleep.

Weekly Recap: 4/26-4/28

Tuesday I lifted weights again but did a lot less reps so I wouldn’t suffer in pain a few days later. I was still slightly sore but nothing like last week.

Wednesday after work we went to Savers since they had all short-sleeved shirts and tank tops on sale 50% off. I know, I just cleaned out my closet. But I love getting new clothes and Savers is the absolute cheapest way to get my fix in without spending any money. Unfortunately neither of us found squat. Even if it’s only $2 I’m not buying something unless I absolutely love it.

Thursday was Jazz Night at E’s high school. Unbeknownst to us we arrived late because the information on the school’s website was wrong and we didn’t have the tickets since E had purchased them on our behalf. When I checked the site last week it showed the event from 7-9 pm. Then Joe checked the site earlier in the week and it said 6:30-8:30 and mentioned how dinner would be provided. I was trying to figure out the logistics of that since the location was listed as their little theater which doesn’t have any tables, plus a half hour to eat is rather short.

We arrived about 6:15 and noticed the parking lot was already packed which was odd because people don’t usually arrive to these things early. Turns out the event started at 6 pm and it wasn’t in the theater at all, but in the cafeteria. A lot of the food was picked over by then and most tables were occupied, so we sat with E’s mother and grandparents. Not that it was a bad thing. His grandparents in particular are very welcoming and just nice people overall. His mom and I aren’t exactly pals, but she was cordial and even showed me where the bathroom was when I needed a quick break so what could have been an awkward situation wasn’t. What was bad was those hard plastic cafeteria seats. They aren’t designed to be sat in for over two hours. My butt hurt was so sore afterwards! Only one more event left (which is next week, in fact) and we won’t be seeing the inside of that high school ever again.

Weekly Recap: 04/19-04/21

Thought you’d like to know that the homemade pizza we made on Monday came out awesome. We tried to make a copycat version of MOD Pizza‘s Lucy Sunshine which has garlic and artichokes with dollops of red sauce. While ours wasn’t an exact replica, it was yummy enough that we’d definitely make it again. It cost approximately $7 to make and was larger than the 11″ pizza MOD sells for almost $8.

The work week was rather uneventful other than how positively sore I was on Thursday from weight lifting on Monday. I really didn’t think I pushed myself that hard so I was surprised how much my triceps were hurting. They didn’t bother me too much on Tuesday or Wednesday so that came as a shock. They hurt pretty bad on Friday too and finally started feeling normal again on Saturday.

Finger Update and New Years Eve

I ended up calling in sick to work on Tuesday because my finger was really hurting and the antibiotics I had been prescribed on Sunday were making me feel extremely fatigued. I called immediate care and they said I should give the antibiotic another day and if I still didn’t see any improvement in the swelling to come back in. That afternoon I got fed up and started poking at my finger with a needle after taking a shower. Nothing happened so I went downstairs to watch TV and was picking at the skin I had poked when suddenly a bunch of pus started coming out of my finger. Gross, I know, but it did alleviate some of the pressure which was a welcome relief.

Wednesday after work we had a standing appointment with our dermatologist for our annual skin check and it dawned on me that he’d know what to do about my finger. When he examined it he said that there wasn’t anything left to drain, but he did switch the antibiotic I was taking to something more suitable to the type of skin infection I have. Since then my finger has been slowly feeling better and the swelling is finally starting to go down. I can type on my computer again without recoiling in pain.

My employer decided to close the office early on Thursday but my boss said some people would be sticking around so I could leave whenever I wanted. Since I’m hourly, and I’m already not getting paid for missing work on Tuesday since I didn’t have any sick time left, I had planned to work a regular shift Thursday, but by 1:30 pm no one was left but me and one guy. He decided to go out for a run so I was literally the only one in the building which was creepy. I ended up clocking out at 2 pm and going home. Next time I’ll just leave at noon with everyone else since it wasn’t worth the anxiety I felt once the office was empty.

Since my finger infection prevented me from taking down the Christmas decorations on Sunday, I tackled that when I got home from work. Three hours later everything was back in their totes in the garage. It took awhile since I had to reorganize all the totes to include all the new decorations I purchased this year (including a Christmas pickle!). When Joe got home from work he took apart the tree and put that away as well.

We had the option of going to my parents’ for the evening but didn’t feel like driving down there, so we ordered a small deep dish pizza from Lou Malnatis and watched TV. Around 11:00 pm I got a burst of energy and ended up decluttering the house. It felt so good to get things in a more organized state. I enjoy the holidays but having all that decor out makes the house look cluttered.

I went to bed shortly after watching the Chi-Town Rising but Joe opted to stay up a little later. It took awhile for me to fall asleep because I was feeling kinda low; not really anything new, honestly. New Years is always a letdown for me because I feel like we should be out partying but we’re never invited to go anywhere (with the exception of my parents which is ok, but not the same as having friends invite you out) and probably would hate it even if we did since we’re not the bar-hopping type. It’s an odd thing I have trouble explaining. Overall I just felt lonely I guess.

Cranky

I’m feeling cranky for quite a few reasons, but the main one is that the middle finger on my right hand is infected and hurts like a bitch because it’s so swollen. It started feeling funny on Tuesday but yesterday was the worst, so I headed over to immediate care this morning. The doctor said it wasn’t infected enough to drain, so I was given an antibiotic prescription and directions to soak it three times a day. It is making typing very difficult and I keep smacking it into stuff which hurts. I won’t be able to put away all the Christmas decor today like I had planned and it’s going to be a challenge cleaning the rat cages which are already past due.

On top of that, all the crap I went through yesterday donating blood at the local library was for naught; thanks to the infection they won’t be able to use my blood. I nearly passed out during the process and the guy who took care of me bruised the hell out of my arm. Needless to say, I’m annoyed.
