Uh … um …. hmmm. I personally don’t care what other people watch because we all have different tastes, but I will say Malibu’s Most Wanted was hilarious and I am willing to bet a lot of people haven’t even contemplated watching it (or probably have even heard of it).

Bunnies and blades

Today was a very productive day off. We went to Walmart, the mall, a book store, Petco, and got lunch at the New China Buffet all before noon! That’s because we went to bed at a decent hour so we were able to drag our butts out of bed before 7:30 am. This new sleeping schedule is great!

We went to the mall to look for a birthday present for the boy, as well as look at mattresses. Both attempts were unsuccessful. The boy wants a strategy guide for a game that’s been out for over a year which is considered ancient these days, so we’ll have to scour the internet for it. None of the stores sell Simmons mattresses so we had no luck on that front either. But all was not lost; we did get two new Easter decorations and some bath towels at Kohl’s. We had just been talking about wanting more and wouldn’t you know it, Kohl’s had our towels 2 for 1. Nice! I don’t think we paid full price for them last time either. I really do love Kohl’s. They always have the best prices and their decorations can’t be beat. I mean, look at how cute this bunny and candy dish are. And both were only $5.19 (reduced from $12.99). Score!

The movie theatre at the mall has been closed for renovations and I’m looking forward to when it opens this summer. I hope the prices are reasonable because I’m getting a little worried about the future of the theatre we currently patronize. The mall it’s in isn’t looking good. Every time we go there we notice more and more empty retail space and it’s rather alarming. I can think of more than five empty stores just off the top of my head and we only walked around half of the first level before before our movie on Saturday. If they close the mall down we’re going to have to look for a theatre elsewhere and I refuse to pay $7 for a matinee. So I hope the one closer to home ends up being ok; although I wouldn’t be surprised if they charge more to help recoup the cost of all the renovations. :p

Oh and we saw Blades of Glory which was pretty funny, albeit not as great as I was hoping (yet exceeding Joe’s expectations). I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those movies that gets funnier with every viewing. I’m sure we’ll see it a million times once it comes to cable.

Yummy in my tummy

We hit our favorite Vietnamese restaurant for dinner tonight. Joe tried their noodle soup and I ordered the tried and true Mongolian beef. I am still burping it up but oh well, it was worth it. The soup was weird and had a somewhat floral taste to it.

We stopped at Jewel-Osco after dinner and managed to spend over $40 on alcohol, cookies, and orange juice. That’s why I hate that store. They have too much selection (although NOT the Lays Hot N’ Spicy chips I’ve been craving) and everything is “on sale” so we end up buying a ton of junk. You gotta admit, though, these are super cute. I hope they taste good! I’m still an alcohol virgin you know.

And the cookies. Well, blame PMS and Joe’s bad influence on those. I almost never ate cookies until I met him. He certainly isn’t making losing weight any easier, but I’ll let him slide since I plan on fully enjoying our three-day weekend.

Tomorrow we’re going to see Blades of Glory. I can’t wait! My bestest friend, the hilarious Nick Swardson, is even in it. Which reminds me, I should really order tickets to see his stand-up show in May. Woo!

T.G.I. Friday’s & The Wild

Since we haven’t been going anywhere with the kids the past few weekends they’ve been over, we thought it would be a nice change of pace to go out for lunch. We chose T.G.I. Friday’s because it’s close, we haven’t been there in ages, and they have a decent kids menu. We tried their new appetizer, crispy green bean fries, which were awesome. Everything else, from the service to the food, was just ok. The hostess was very bored and not very friendly and the waiter wasn’t much better. I don’t expect to be treated like royalty but would it have killed either of them to pretend like they wanted us there?

Honestly, I’m not sure why we even dine out anymore as more often than not I’m not impressed with the food. I’d rather make my own. Luckily the kids meals are cheap so the bill wasn’t bad, otherwise I would have been more annoyed. I didn’t appreciate that they brought out our food but neglected to provide utensils. Those are rather important when you order salad and spaghetti. In any case that place has been lumped into the same category as Denny’s: nice in theory but always a disappointment. Therefore I can’t see us dining there again.

Anyway, after lunch we played two games of Scene It Jr. with the kids. They sure know how to kill the fun with their constant bickering. The game is actually quite decent but they argue at every opportunity over who gets to ask the trivia questions. Who cares?!? Man, I’m sure I was just as annoying when I was a kid but that doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. The boy in particular gets so angry if he thinks it’s his turn to ask a question. He needs to take a chill pill.

After the game we watched Disney’s The Wild. We wanted to rent Flushed Away, but it was out. I wasn’t too sad, though, since I had planned to see The Wild anyway after learning that Kiefer Sutherland is the voice of the main character, Sampson the lion. The movie wasn’t anything special although it had some cute parts like when they were in downtown New York and the giraffe spotted a Toys R Us and was enthralled (you know, because their mascot is a giraffe also). The koala bear was my favorite, however. Oh, and there were a few scenes in particular where a Jack Bauer “DAMMIT!” would have fit in quite nicely. I even whispered it to Joe at the appropriate places and he laughed.
