Cure Me

Oh man … you know you’ve lost touch when your boyfriend, whom isn’t even a fan, informs you that your favorite band (ahem, that would be The Cure for the uninformed) has a new cd single coming out. Although I really wouldn’t call it new. More like recycled.

So I went to check The Cure’s official site news, and all of a sudden they are back in action. Apparently I missed their appearance on the Late Night Show with Craig Kilbourn last night. Doh! Even worse, they’re playing a concert tomorrow night in California. So I’ll be in Wisconsin and some of you will be basking in the beautiful sound of The Cure. I envy you … bastards!

The Cure – Trilogy (a review)

I’ve got the newest Cure dvd, Trilogy in the dvd player. It’s a two-disc live concert featuring three full albums – Pornography (1982), Disintegration (1989) and Bloodflowers (2000). Truth be told, I wasn’t in a hurry to watch it, but I have this sickness where I have to own anything The Cure releases, regardless of whether it’s good.

But do not fret, this dvd is goood. It’s not particularly interesting visually, but what Cure concert is? Robert stands there practically immobile. Simon only gets into the music a bit. But anywho, sometimes I forgot how goddamn talented Robert Smith and Co. are. I go through periods where I listen to everything BUT The Cure, and then I’ll pop a cd in and it all comes back. I can’t stop loving this band!

What’s so impressive is how well they play live. Many of the songs sound like they came straight off the cd. You wouldn’t even know it was a live concert! And this time around Robert decided, probably because it was being recorded, to use the “right” words. If you’ve ever been to a Cure concert, you’ll know what I mean … he loves changing the words. I often wonder if it’s because he likes to be silly, or he’s so messed up from all the drugs and alcohol he’s consumed over the years he just can’t recall them so he makes shit up. Either way, it makes things entertaining.

Listening to them live again makes me want to run out and buy The Cure In Orange on VCD. I have it on VHS, but it’s just not the same, nor does it sound as good as this dvd. But man, Robert actually dances in that one! It’s so fucking cute!

Bottom-line: If you like The Cure, buy this dvd and leave it on while you’re fucking someone. Very nice.
