Guitar Hero III

Ok, so remember those bathroom rugs and towels we took back? Those were nearly $90.

Today we ran to Circuit City when they opened to get the new Guitar Hero III bundle (for $90). Yea, our priorities are a bit skewed. But I look at it this way – we didn’t need the bathroom stuff, but we needed another guitar. Yes, yes we did. Why? So we can battle. Am I serious? Yes, I’m dead serious. Hey, I don’t need to justify myself to you!

Ahem. Anyway, we plan to enjoy our last day of freedom to its fullest. We’re making caramel apples, various Halloween treats, and carving a pumpkin. Joe is going to watch the Bears game. And me? Well, I’ll be rocking out on our PS2. Duh.

P.S. Target has an exclusive bundle that comes with the game and two guitars (albeit not wireless) which is perfect for someone who doesn’t already own a guitar. Too bad they aren’t wireless, though. We already have a wireless guitar so we went with Circuit City’s special – a free guitar stand.

Bananafishbones

We invited my brother and his girlfriend to go on a haunted forest walk with us last night. These plans were made two weeks in advance, but you can’t fight mother nature. Shortly after they arrived it started raining, so after our dinner of Lou Malnati’s deep dish pizza we played some games instead; Pictionary and Guitar Hero, to be exact. I also made brownies which everyone seemed to like.

My brother must have enjoyed himself because he really didn’t want to leave but they both had to be up early the next morning. I hope his girlfriend had fun. It’s hard to tell with her because she’s much more quiet than he is. I hope the long drive, which was made even longer by the Friday evening rush-hour traffic, doesn’t turn them off from visiting again.

I had a lot of fun. I’ve been wanting to spend some “quality” time with my brother but in the past it seemed he wanted nothing to do with me. Perhaps now that he’s older we’ll be able to hang out more often. I may be 10 years older physically, but not mentally. ;)

I apparently don’t look to be in my thirties either. I was standing in Sears today waiting for Joe to grab the bathroom rugs/towels from the car so we could return them when an older employee asked me if she could help me with anything. When I told her I was waiting for my husband she was genuinely shocked and said I looked too young to be married. When I told her I was in my thirties she wanted to know my secret. Just lucky, I guess. Now I don’t feel so bad for being mistaken for twelve years old back when I was eighteen.

Meme: Love will keep us together

1. Who is your partner?
Joe

2. How long have you been together?
Married, two years. Together a total of almost seven.

3. How long did you date?
Five years.

4. How old is your partner?
38

5. Who eats more?
Joe

6. Who said “I love you” first?
Joe. But I almost let it slip out the same day. He teases me for being the first one to say it, but I think the man should say it first because often a woman saying that can scare off a man.

7. Who is taller?
Joe

8. Who sings better?
Neither of us. We both suck and rarely sing in front of each other. It’s only alone in the car where we can’t make anyone’s ears bleed.

9. Who is smarter?
I have more book smarts but Joe has more street smarts. He also has what he calls a wealth of useless knowledge.

10. Whose temper is worse?
Hard to say. I get angry a lot more often but I think when Joe gets upset it lasts longer.

11. Who does the laundry?
Me mostly. Although once I get it started Joe will often move the clothes from the washing machine to the dryer and also fold dried clothes.

12. Who takes out the garbage?
Joe

13. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
I do.

14. Who pays the bills?
I do, but Joe handles our investments.

15. Who is better with the computer?
Joe is.

16. Who mows the lawn?
Neither of us. The townhouse association does it.

17. Who cooks dinner?
I usually do.

18. Who drives when you are together?
Definitely Joe. I almost never drive when we’re together because I’m lazy.

19. Who pays when you go out?
Since we’re married it doesn’t matter since it all comes from the same place.

20. Who is most stubborn?
I am.

21. Who is the first to admit when they are wrong?
I think we’re even on this. We don’t fight a lot so it’s hard to think of a specific instance to see who gives in first.

22. Whose parents do you see the most?
It used to be Joe’s parents but since they moved to Arizona it’s now my parents.

23. Who kissed who first?
He kissed me.

24. Who asked who out?
I’d say Joe asked me out but at the time it was just a friends thing. It didn’t develop into something more for about two weeks.

25. Who proposed?
Joe proposed on a beach in Michigan. He was so nervous it was cute.

26. Who is more sensitive?
I guess it depends on the situation.

27. Who has more friends?
Neither one of us has any friends we really hang out with so that’s a tough one. Won’t you be my friend?

28. Who has more siblings?
We both have two each.

29. Who wears the pants in the family?
He will definitely say I do because he spoils me.

TGIF?

Happy Friday everyone. I’m not as happy as I usually am on Fridays because our time off is coming to an end. It was nice while it lasted.

Yesterday we ended up going to the mall in lieu of any good ideas of where to go. I wanted to check out the jeans at The Gap because I heard good things about them. Unfortunately none of them fit well. The size 10 was too big and the size 8 was too tight in one style. In another the size 8 was perfect except the big gap in the back (hmmm, could that be why they named the store the way they did). It was even worse than my cheap jeans.

All was not lost, however. I got a kick-ass deal on dress pants at New York & Company. It’s my favorite place for pants for work because at least once a year I find the most comfortable pants on sale. This time I got two pair for $33 (one pair is normally $30). I also got a beautiful warm cream and tan-colored sweater at Kohls.

Without anything else to do, I cleaned our hall closet when we got home and decided to take back the bathroom rugs and matching towels we had purchased at Sears last weekend. They are a beautiful shade of purple but we already have too many towels and we’re running out of adequate space to store it all. Not to mention the fact that we don’t need a new bathroom set – I just wanted one. But frankly I’m tired of all the stuff we have, so they are going back. Luckily I hadn’t taken off any tags or washed them yet.

One thing we have way too much of is candle stuff. We have tons of different candle holders and lots and lots of different sized candles. Also lots of different scents, mostly from Yankee Candle. So I gathered up all the ones I have never used and probably never will and threw them in a bag for the garage sale we plan to have next Spring. I also gathered up all my old Walkmans (why I was holding onto them is beyond me) and threw them in the bag. I doubt they will sell, but you never know. My old film cameras went into the bag too. In fact, I might sell my first ever digital camera. Technology has come a long way in five years and we haven’t touched the camera in a long time. I still have the original manual, box, CF card, a nice bag, and a zoom lens. I think selling it as a kit for a kid interested in photography would be a good way to go. I’m not delusional to think we’ll get much for it but is $50 too high of an asking price on a 3 MP Nikon with a zoom lens and rechargeable battery? I could even throw in a few small capacity CF cards to sweeten the deal. All total I paid over $750 for everything when new. Or is Craig’s List better for that sort of thing? I have a distaste for garage sales because they often attract some of the cheapest people alive who want to try and haggle over 10 cents. It makes me want to tell them to get off my property. Like it’s not cheap enough! Plus I’ve heard stories of people stealing from garage sales. How pathetic!

Anyway, I have to run. We’re having my brother and his girlfriend over tonight for dinner and, weather permitting, a haunted forest walk. It should be fun.

Wildfire & Morton Arboretum

Yesterday we celebrated our anniversary by gorging ourselves on food.

We started our day having breakfast at the local pancake house, then headed to the mall intending to see A Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D. Once we got there, however, neither one of us felt like sitting in a theatre so we went shopping instead. Try not to laugh, but I ended up buying a robe! It’s so warm and fuzzy and lavender. I love it because I’m always cold once the weather dips below 60°.

We skipped lunch because we went to Wildfire for dinner. I want to tell you that it was wonderful like last time but it wasn’t. I convinced Joe to try the calamari because I had it at Bahama Breeze before, but it was nothing like that and we didn’t enjoy it. To add insult to injury, they fry little squids and put them right on the plate looking just like little squids! So gross! In addition, my filet was charred yet rare inside and after sending it back it was even more charred and over-cooked inside. Even with our $10 voucher and the $11 we had left on the Lettuce Entertain You card, the meal was still over $60 which pissed me off. I am absolutely done getting steak anywhere other than Lonestar Steakhouse. What a disappointment! We decided to cut our losses and skip dessert; we got ice cream from Baskin-Robbins instead. It was so good too. I had my old favorite – peanut butter and chocolate, but I also tried a new flavor – Mississippi mud which was really good! So we did end our day on a good note. And it was still a good anniversary despite the disappointing dinner because I spent it with my favorite person in the whole world.

Today we visited the Morton Arboretum for the first time in five years. Unfortunately the Fall colors aren’t quite in full force yet. That being said, we made an effort to take our time exploring the area, resulting in a three hour visit.

Afterwards we had yummy orange chicken at Panda Express and visited Cosley Zoo for a bit before coming home. We couldn’t think of anything else to do and spent the rest of the evening watching tv, although we did run out for some hot wings for dinner. We found a local place we hadn’t tried before and luckily they were good. Now we don’t have to drive all the way to Hooter’s when we’re craving wings.

I’m at a loss on what to do tomorrow. Zoo? Eh, don’t feel like driving into the city and Brookfield is the same old shit, different day. Planetarium? I could wait another few years. Pumpkin farm? Boring. Movies? Nothing good playing until Friday. Forest preserve? Trees aren’t glorious reds and golds just yet. This is killing me! I know some people would love the prospect of just sitting at home all day but I am not that type of person. The worst part is come Monday morning I will probably think of a ton of fun stuff we could have done while off. If anyone has any suggestions, I’m all ears!
