Uh-oh, Nikon

Joe’s camera is broken. ='(

This totally sucks. It would be one thing if he dropped it or did something to cause this, but no, he was just taking photos today, and out of nowhere a “system error” popped up on the screen. It won’t do much of anything now. We had to remove the battery just to get the camera to turn off. And the lens is stuck in telephoto. Bah! We’re hoping that by leaving the battery out of the camera for 24 hours that it will reset itself, but I don’t have a good feeling about it.

I’ve browsed the digital camera forums and it looks as though this is an unrecoverable error, meaning that short of sending the camera into Nikon repair, waiting several weeks, spending god knows how much to have the lens elements replaced because the camera is no longer under warranty, the camera is dead. Why couldn’t this happen in winter when we don’t go out photographing anyway?

And of course Joe won’t even consider buying a new camera. If it was me, one would have already been ordered and on it’s way. Haha.

I don’t think you’ll be seeing many photos from me either until we figure something out, because it’s just not the same when Joe can’t participate.

  1. wow that totally sucks!! well maybe you can talk him into getting a Coolpix 2000 or evey a 2100, It always seems that a camera breaks once there is no warranty, doesn’t it?

  2. There’s no way he’s getting a lower-end camera. If anything, he’ll get another 3-megapixel or higher. But that’s gonna run at least $300. Not bad, though, considering the 885 was $550.
