Good news

I have good news! We found out yesterday that Joe got the internal position he interviewed for exactly a month earlier. Thank god! I am so relieved that we can keep saving money, and spending it too. ;)

So what did we do to celebrate? Well, first we went to Lonestar Steakhouse for dinner and each got a yummy filet. I cannot stress how good their steaks are, plus how cheap in comparison to the fancy steak houses we’ve been to in the past and didn’t even like.

After dinner we went to Circuit City and I almost convinced Joe to buy a new laptop since they had a sweet 17″ widescreen Toshiba that would be awesome for his gaming. He was hesitant to drop almost $800 without doing some research first, though. I saw the cutest laptop too but it was $1000+ which is way too much for how often I’d use it. I’d like something lightweight to surf on from the couch but not for that price! I think I’ll be ordering a new processor and memory for my desktop, though. Or a new computer if that’s cheaper.

Somehow we ended up at Target in the electronics department and Joe asked if I wanted to get the 80GB iPod Classic I’ve been drooling over lately. I debated, but it was on sale and they give you a $25 gift card, so how could I resist? I was standing there, unable to decide between the black and the silver, and what does my husband do? He tells the kid, “give us one of each”. This coming from my not-so-spontaneous (at least with money) husband! To say I was shocked is an understatement! He had a little buyer’s remorse after the kid rang us up but he got over it. LOL!

So we got them home and I made him open the black one so I could look at it before we opened the silver one. I loaded my entire Cure collection on it (of course) after I figured out iTunes. Yes, I’m going to gripe about it again because I really do not like it. The user interface stinks and if there’s a way to clean up deleted files from the library without manually deleting them one by one I’ve been unable to figure it out. But no matter as I found out Winamp supports the iPod and is much easier to use. Problem solved. And this knowledge will come in handy for when the girl gets her Nano for Christmas.

Anyway, I decided I’d rather have the black one which is ironic because I had been leaning toward the silver one initially and Joe was trying to convince me to get the black one (before he decided to get one too). I told Joe we should exchange the silver one for another black one since he didn’t seem to care for the silver but he decided he likes it after all so he opened it up this afternoon and started loading songs on it.

Can you guess where we’re going on Sunday? The Apple store to look at iPod accessories. I can’t wait!

Who still owns audio cassettes?

I do. They’ve been gathering dust in the closet because I can’t bear to part with them. The reason? They contain songs I like but don’t own in any other format. Don’t get me wrong, I do own some of them on CD, most notably all my Cure and Depeche Mode albums, but that’s about it.

Quite frankly the idea of getting rid of my Cure cassette collection makes me break out in a sweat. It’s illogical, I know – I own every last cassette, and then some, on CD, but for some reason I feel they hold more value than the CDs because The Cure was the first band I really got into and had to own everything they ever released. Buying just one cassette was so exciting to me. And the year I got four albums for Christmas? Best year ever!

Anyway, most of the cassettes I own contain only one or two songs I enjoy so I don’t feel it’s worth the expense of buying the full album on CD. While I haven’t listened to these songs in years, I don’t want to part with them for good.

In addition to albums and singles, I also have two cassettes of some of my favorite songs recorded off the radio sometime between 1998-1992. The problem is I’m not sure I documented the titles correctly because I can’t find many of them online. In addition, there’s an adaptation of The Devil Went Down To Georgia called The Devil Came Up To Chicago that even Google has minimal information on.

I guess I need to figure out an inexpensive way to get these cassettes digitized. I’ll have to put this on my list of projects. If you have any suggestions, let me know.

And before you suggest iTunes, please don’t. I dislike how they won’t let you convert the songs to MP3. I realize that option exists but every single time I choose it I’m told the song is copyrighted and I cannot do it, so what’s the point? It’s like they hold the stuff you buy hostage. I prefer listening to my music using Winamp anyway and don’t enjoy being forced to use iTunes. Plus it runs hella slow on my computer.

All other suggestions are welcome, however.

More speed please

If I had to pick only two gifts for Christmas they would be a faster processor and more memory for my computer. It’s dragging ass lately and really pissing me off. I never noticed how slow it can get until my work computer was upgraded. Now it pales in comparison. Just imagine clicking a program and actually having it load immediately instead of the computer mulling it over awhile.

Freakin awesome links, photos, and videos Friday

Otherwise known as FALPVF! Haha, that’s the title for a new feature on my blog that, knowing me, will likely be one post and then dropped. I cannot be trusted to blog regularly as many of you have come to realize. In fact, you might as well subscribe to the feed so you don’t waste your time checking back here frequently. I don’t have much to say. Work is work. I watch tv daily. I play Guitar Hero a lot (for now until I get bored).

So here’s some stuff I’ve seen in online that I would like to share with you all!

Bears … Beets … Battlestar Galactica – Otherwise known as Jim vs. Dwight on The Office. I laugh my ass off every time I watch this.

If that doesn’t float your boat, why don’t you break me off a piece of that Fancy Feast?

Do you prefer cute creatures? How about this hamster? Or perhaps this dragon-pig?

If creepy is more your style, check out the Living Dead Dolls pencil sharpener. Just what you need when you want to ram a pencil in some douchebag’s eye!

If organization and usefulness make you excited (like it does for me), check out the Dynomighty Magnetic Desk Dots or the Mobile Device Charging Holder. Imaginative name, that last one, eh? Manbearpig must have had something to do with it.

I am McLovin

Too tired and ready to head upstairs to post a real entry ….

A Qdoba ground sirloin burrito has 1080 calories! Holy shit, guess I won’t be eating there again for awhile. But that three cheese queso is muy bueno!

I actually lost at Pictionary this weekend. Well, only the second game when I was forced to team up with my brother who draws better than the rest of us yet lacks the mind-reading capabilities my husband and I share. Oh and Trivial Pursuit 80’s Edition still sucks balls.

I finally got my new computer at work! Tomorrow will be my first day using it. I’m way too excited about this than a person should be.

Super Bad was super vulgar, and super free since The Simpsons two weeks ago started late and we got free passes for the inconvenience. “I am McLovin.”

I deleted a load of feeds from my Bloglines. I’m sick of reading boring blog entry after another (much like this one). It’s a total waste of time. I need to stop spending so much time online and rediscover my old hobbies like jewelry-making. And tv-watching. LOL! Oh and exercising would be nice. I have the 1st season of The L Word that’s gathering dust upstairs by the elliptical machine (also full of dust).

Drool-worthy discovery today – Canon has announced the 40D. Oh baby, I am so getting this camera!!! Joe has wanted to inherit my 20D for awhile now but there wasn’t anything out there worthy of relinquishing it to him. Now there is. I also need a hot-shoe and Joe is going to build me a light box.

I want to have a garage sale but I don’t know if I should push myself to get one organized before October or just wait until next Spring so I can slowly declutter the closets and garage. I’m tired of all the stuff. I don’t want it. I don’t need it.
