Round1

Saturday we decided to check out Round1, a new bowling and amusement center that was built in our local mall late last year. I invited Brother #2 and his girlfriend to tag along, so once they arrived at 3 pm we all squeezed in Joe’s SUV and headed out.

When we arrived, all the lanes were occupied but the guy put us on the waiting list and said he’d call us when a lane opened. We decided to purchase member cards since they cost $5 but also included 20 game credits and give you $1 per hour discounts on bowling and other activities. We hit the skee-ball machines (or ice ball, as they called them) first because I love me some skee-ball! We also played air hockey, shot some hoops, and my brother and his girlfriend played driving games while Joe and E shot up some aliens.

After awhile I was getting concerned because the 20-25 minute estimated wait window had definitely passed. Finally I went up to ask what was going on and they claimed they had called us a long time ago. The guy who had taken our name was no longer there and the girl helping us explained you have to stick around that area in order to hear them over the loudspeaker which we were never told. Not only that, but they really can’t just install speakers in the arcade section? I call shenanigans, but whatever.

Luckily there were lanes available at that point anyway, so we got set up. Joe opted out due to his back and after the first round E decided to bow out because it was aggravating a shoulder injury he had sustained in the car accident last March. So my brother, who amusingly enough, brought his own bowling ball and shoes, played E’s round as well as his own. He won, of course. I scored just an 86, which I can only remember because that’s the year my brother was born. His girlfriend came in last. But we all enjoyed ourselves!

The prices are reasonable before 5 pm on the weekends, so I’d be up for going again. I definitely want to take E back there so we can play pool and ping pong since we didn’t get a chance.

We mulled over whether to go out for dinner but opted instead to head back home where I made my delicious spaghetti and meatballs. Then we played Jenga & Aggravation. I may have played Jenga once or twice in the past but I can’t remember because it’s not my favorite game. We did, however, get up to 31 levels before Joe made the tower come crashing down!

In all, it was a fun night, even if Brother #2 aggravated me a bit with his pissy-ness when I first extended the invite because it was so last minute. Admittedly, it was – I texted him 10:30 am that day asking if they wanted to meet up between 1-2 pm. But in my defense, I brought up going to this place weekend and my brother said he’d check to see what he was doing this weekend and get back to me, and per his usual fashion, he did not. So there’s that.

Weekend Recap

Another weekend has flown by! We actually had three days together since Joe took Friday off from work. Originally we were supposed to be in Phoenix since his dad was having open heart surgery on Friday but he asked we hold off on visiting until he was more up to company. Turns out they couldn’t do the surgery after all and it was rescheduled for next week.

Friday morning we spent far too much time in Costco. It was much less crowded than weekends which was nice. I always want to walk out of that place with a new TV and digital camera; luckily I come to my senses eventually. Although I do think we will have to replace our TV sometime soon. The bedroom TV has been acting weird (refusing to turn on and it’s only about three years old) so we swapped it with the one in our loft last week. Unfortunately they are both Polaroids so I wouldn’t be surprised if that one goes bad too. At that point I’d rather replace our main TV and move it upstairs than just buy a new TV for the bedroom. I’m crossing my fingers that by the time that happens the 4K HDTVs will be even better or the 8K HDTV Samsung is currently working on will be available (and affordable).

We used the last of our coupons for a free apple pie (not impressive) and toilet paper (haven’t used yet so the jury is still out) that we had gotten when we got our membership. I added it up and between the free items and the $20 Costco card, the regular $55 membership was actually free. I love a good deal!

Friday night we went to BINGO with a friend who won $40. She won in November when we went too. Damn! All I got was a $5 coupon good towards the next time which I got from playing their version of PLINKO since it was my birthday month.

The rest of the weekend included running errands, cleaning the house, and just hanging out relaxing. I also discovered how delicious pistachios are; I’ve had pistachio flavored cake and ice cream but never the actual nut.

We stopped at Savers on Sunday because clothing was 50% off for members. Joe got 6 shirts and I got a sweater (looked brand new), a sweatshirt, and a cute tank top for summer and our total out the door was $22. My stuff was only $5. He’s the “big spender” there.

New Sweater

Oh, and Target was having a sale on Essie nail polish (buy two get one free) so I got some nice new colors. It’s the little things that make my day.

Cosley Zoo Lights

Saturday Brother # 2 and his girlfriend (hence forward known as R) came over so we could all go to Cosley Zoo to check out their zoo lights. It’s not too impressive, but it’s close, it’s free, and it was 50 degrees out so that’s a win in my book. I just wish they’d decorate the trees and other areas instead of just putting up animal-shaped lights and calling it a day. They could make it a little nicer, plus it would be easier to navigate through some of the otherwise very dark sections of the zoo.

Rudolph

After getting back home we ordered pizza and played some games (Pictionary Jr. and Uno Attack). Then Joe, E, and my brother decided to pay Call of Duty online (my brother brought his PS3 and hooked it up to the TV in our loft so he could join in). I took that opportunity to introduce R to the rats which she enjoyed. She actually commented on how much she likes their tails which is funny because even I wasn’t so keen on them at first. She got to hold and pet Marshmallow briefly once he calmed down. He also stayed on the bed which is unusual for him since he usually spends all of his out of cage time trying to get off the bed. Before that I had put Milo and Gizmo on the bed and she was able to pet both and give them treats. Gizmo, being the most friendly and outgoing one, eventually jumped onto her shoulder. It was cute.

It was nice being able to get to know R better. My brother has been dating her for like two years, possibly longer, at this point and I only see her once in awhile at my parents’ for holidays. After dinner they usually slink off to my brother’s room so our discussions are always brief.

The Elephant

My green bean and sweet potato casseroles are cooked and cooling in the fridge and the turkey is finally defrosted thanks to a bath in the sink for two hours. I’ll be throwing that bad boy in the oven tomorrow morning, making more sides (stuffing, mac n cheese, etc.) and then bringing everything over to my parents’ for Thanksgiving.

For the record, I’ve been feeling better mentally the last two weeks and I’m not sure why. In fact, my sleep has been horrible so I’m flummoxed. Which just proves that my moods are completely beyond my control. Yay!

Here’s some stuff that happened recently:

A few days after we had dinner with my cousin I came home to an Amazon package. This was inside:

CousinGift01

CousinGift02

CousinGift03

A little backstory – Over dinner I was telling my cousin’s boyfriend about how when we were kids my grandma took me to the circus and I got to ride an elephant. She also bought me a super cute powder blue inflatable elephant which I loved. Well, one day about a month or so later my cousin came over to my grandma’s house to visit and spotted my elephant in the basement. She decided she wanted to “ride” the elephant even though it was far too small for such a thing and before I could stop her she sat on it and it popped. I pretty much hated her after that day (not that we were ever close to begin with, but that cemented my dislike of her). Of course, when telling this story I changed it to “I didn’t like her too much after that”. My cousin thought the story was funny but couldn’t even remember the event because she’s younger than me and couldn’t have been older than six at the time.

After opening the package I messaged my cousin to thank her and we had a good laugh over it. I didn’t tell her, but I plan on blowing it up and putting it in different poses and sending her photos. I just haven’t gotten around to it.

You know those sliding windows that are at the drive-up pharmacy? Well, my company has something similar to deal with visitors so they can’t just walk into our office. It’s also where we tuck outgoing mail to be picked up. Last week at work I slid open the window to put some mail in there and the entire thing fell out of it’s track! It actually fell inward toward the receptionist/HR/admin (she’s a jack of all trades) onto her desk. It made a terrible racket and scared the crp out of both of us. Thank god it didn’t break as the glass is thick and could do some real damage. Apparently it was off the track the day before and the guy who “fixed” it didn’t do it right. Now I’m scared of the damn thing.

Last Friday Joe and I decided to go play BINGO at the local church. I invited a friend/former coworker to join us and we had a nice time even though Joe and I didn’t win shit (my friend won $10 which paid for her admission which was nice). Now my friend wants to go to BINGO every month, but that’s too much for me. It gets tiring sitting around for three hours. I told her maybe every other month would work better.

Bats & Clues

I have a cold. I’ve actually had a sore throat since last Wednesday but no other cold symptoms until yesterday when my nose and eyes started running and I started sneezing often. Last night I went to bed at 9:30 pm and slept until 8 am, yet I’m still tired!

Despite not feeling well the weekend was pretty good. Friday night after dinner I ran to the AT&T store to get a case for my new phone. They didn’t have much of a selection but the guy showed us what he called the overstock drawer and I spotted the purple case I showed off in the last entry. Now I just need to get my hands on a spare lightning cable for use in my car and/or at the office and a 30-pin to lightning adapter so I can still use my spare portable battery when needed. I’m not a big hurry since I don’t anticipate having to charge my phone multiple times a day until it’s at least a year old.

Saturday afternoon E’s mom dropped him off and we played Angry Bird Star Wars II on the Wii until Joe got home from work. Then I made spaghetti and meatballs and my SIL joined us for dinner. She brought my favorite dog, Bella, along to visit. They are both moving back to Arizona in two weeks which sucks.

After dinner we played Catchphrase which I had borrowed from the library. It’s very similar to Taboo except for the annoying beeping when you’re trying to think of a clue. Plus after several rounds we were getting all the same clues already. After we grew tired of the game we switched to Uno Attack.

After my SIL left we watched the Christmas Vacation movie since E had never seen it.

Sunday morning Joe and I went to Target while E stayed home to play video games. I came across these self-adhesive bats in the Halloween section and bought all three boxes they had left. I had seen them last year and by the time I decided to get them they were completely sold out. With my 20% Cartwheel discount they were only $4 each. I love bats and can’t wait to put these up! I also got some Martha Stewart ones from Michael’s for around $6 so we’ll see how they compare.

I also couldn’t resist this cute owl insulated cup. I have a few I bought years ago and the seal on them is now broken so I plan to use this one for work.

After our lengthy Target trip we played CLUE – Big Bang Theory with E and had pizzas (Target’s Market Pantry brand aren’t bad for $2.50 each; we tried them on recommendation of a coworker of mine) before dropping E off at home.

CLUE - Big Bang Theory Edition

Today I ran to the library to drop off some stuff that was due and picked up a couple of books to read. I also stopped at Target to grab some cold medicine since I finished what we had last night. I love drinking that stuff; you go off to la-la land quickly. I hope to get some extra rest tonight since it’s back to work tomorrow.
