Be a hero

Last night we had my family over for The Girl’s 13th birthday party. My mom wasn’t feeling well so she stayed home, but my dad and both my brothers showed up. I was shocked that Brother #2 came because he has never been to our place in the three years we’ve lived here and he’s been invited many times. I made spaghetti with meatballs and garlic bread for dinner and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Brother #1 liked it so much he later told me I have to make it again the next time he visits.

Brother #2 brought Guitar Hero for the PS2 and everyone took turns trying it out. I really wasn’t planning on playing, but it looked fun so I gave it a try. I didn’t do great, and couldn’t get through half of Message In A Bottle by The Police, but I did improve with each try. It’s pretty addictive, in fact! All we need is the guitar since my brother let us copy the game, so we’re going to look at Walmart tomorrow. I might just end up spending my American Express gift cheque from work on it. I could just imagine what my boss would think of that. Hmm, perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that the brain on LikeBetter guessed I was a male, huh?

I am McLovin

Too tired and ready to head upstairs to post a real entry ….

A Qdoba ground sirloin burrito has 1080 calories! Holy shit, guess I won’t be eating there again for awhile. But that three cheese queso is muy bueno!

I actually lost at Pictionary this weekend. Well, only the second game when I was forced to team up with my brother who draws better than the rest of us yet lacks the mind-reading capabilities my husband and I share. Oh and Trivial Pursuit 80’s Edition still sucks balls.

I finally got my new computer at work! Tomorrow will be my first day using it. I’m way too excited about this than a person should be.

Super Bad was super vulgar, and super free since The Simpsons two weeks ago started late and we got free passes for the inconvenience. “I am McLovin.”

I deleted a load of feeds from my Bloglines. I’m sick of reading boring blog entry after another (much like this one). It’s a total waste of time. I need to stop spending so much time online and rediscover my old hobbies like jewelry-making. And tv-watching. LOL! Oh and exercising would be nice. I have the 1st season of The L Word that’s gathering dust upstairs by the elliptical machine (also full of dust).

Drool-worthy discovery today – Canon has announced the 40D. Oh baby, I am so getting this camera!!! Joe has wanted to inherit my 20D for awhile now but there wasn’t anything out there worthy of relinquishing it to him. Now there is. I also need a hot-shoe and Joe is going to build me a light box.

I want to have a garage sale but I don’t know if I should push myself to get one organized before October or just wait until next Spring so I can slowly declutter the closets and garage. I’m tired of all the stuff. I don’t want it. I don’t need it.

Garage sale finds

Check out the Halloween decoration I picked up at a garage sale today for only a buck. Nice! I don’t usually buy stuff when we take the kids garage-saling, but I couldn’t resist. I just love Halloween stuff!

The kids made out too. The Girl got Disney Scene It and The Boy got Trivial Pursuit For Kids Nickelodeon Edition. Together they go for $55 new and they only paid $3 each. Other than a missing character (Mickey) in the Disney game, they were both in mint condition.

I’m not ashamed to tell you that the only Trivial Pursuit game I’ve been able to win to date is this kids edition. I don’t watch any of the shows they ask questions on, but I’m very good at making an educational guess. I also won Scene It. Yea, I guess I’m a bitch like that, haha. But the kids are so cool that they were happy for me and not upset they didn’t win. As far as they are concerned as long as their father doesn’t win, the universe is still in balance. LOL!

Busy Saturday

Wow, where didn’t we go today? I swear we drove all over. We got up early so we could hit the community garage sale at the local park. What a bust! There were less booths than last year and mostly just clothes and toys. Not that it would have mattered – I love garage sales but I rarely buy anything. I just like looking.

After that we went to various places…

– The library to get some cds and pick up a copy of the newest Harry Potter book that I had put on hold. It’s for Joe, so don’t get excited. I am not a Harry Potter fan. He isn’t big on reading like I am, and with new books they often don’t let you renew so I joked that he’s going to have to keep putting a copy on hold each time he wants to read the next chapter.

– We finally found an elusive indoor miniature golf place we had heard about. We wanted to know where the heck it was so we can take the kids one of these days. We also spotted some really cool townhomes across the street from said place that look like they belong in Nevada. I’ve been trying to hunt them down on Realtor.com because I’m really curious how much they are and what they look like inside.

– Factory card outlet where I saved a bundle on cheap wrapping paper. Nothing like getting a roll for $1 that is twice as big as the one they sell for $3. I ended up buying a Happy Birthday roll, one for Baby Showers, and 2 all-purpose rolls. I also got 5 gift bags in a pack for $1.50. My total was less than $6. Boy do I love a deal!

– Half Price Books. I saw this organizer software and nearly wet myself in excitement. Unfortunately it was an older version, but at only $8 I almost bought it anyway. Now I’m going to download the free trial to make sure I like it. If I do, I might just buy it online. I really love organization; I’m sick like that.

– Culver’s for a cheeseburger. I rarely go here because they aren’t my favorite place in the world, but I’m sick of McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s burgers. We contemplated going to Houlihan’s, but I didn’t feel up to spending $30 on lunch. Of course, now that I’m looking over their menu online, I’m feeling a little regret.

– Wheaton library to use their internet to get the address of…

– Holes & Knolls Miniature Golf Course. I wanted to check it out for the kids. It’s really quite cute, albeit pricey, but fun! I got a hole in one on the first hole! Overall Joe beat me, but only by one stroke. I was really impressed with the area. There’s a pavilion with benches, a playground, a little walking path, and a small water park for little kids. It would be the perfect place to take the kids. Pack a lunch, play some golf, and then relax while they ran around the playground.

– Trader Joe’s because I like browsing the food even if I rarely get much. I just can’t justify their prices, particularly for the produce. I got the coolest orange sunflowers, though.

– Dairy Queen because weekend calories don’t count. I got a dipped cone which I haven’t had in forever.

– Walgreen’s to pick up some milk.

– Home to listen to the stupid neighbor’s dog bark for a couple of hours until said neighbors got home. I’ve been doing laundry all afternoon and of course this part of the day has gone by faster than when we were trekking all over the place. It’s been raining on and off since we got home too.

Flyers

We took the kids to a minor league baseball game last night. It was a Schaumburg Flyers game to be exact, and the event was through my employer. Each employee got a free ticket plus $15 in what they call Bearon Bucks, which is good for purchasing concessions (which are expensive as all hell, let me tell you.. we went through the $15 and then some quite quickly). We also got the additional seats at a discount.

Schaumburg Flyers game

Even though it rained most of the day, by the time we got to the ballpark the skies had cleared up. It was an interesting experience as I’ve never been to such a small park before. The only thing that always irks me about sporting events is how no one ever just sits and watches the game. They are constantly talking and getting up to get food, use the bathroom, whatever. Since we were seated at the end of our row we got up so many times to let people by that I lost count. Other than that, it was fun, even though they lost. They ended the night with a decent fireworks show. By the time we got home it was 11 pm! On the way home we drove past a miniature golf course we’ve never seen before, so I’ve added it to my list to check out.
