Caliente Pockets

I never realized how funny comedian Jim Gaffigan is until I caught Beyond the Pale on Comedy Central last weekend. His hot pockets bit is hilarious!

“Remove from box, insert directly into toilet”.

After that line I started laughing so hard I was crying and not able to breathe. Love it! Now I’m going to have to track down his earlier material. And if he looks a little familiar to you, yes, he plays PJ’s brother, Andy, in My Boys.

DC on SNL again

I have just learned that Dane Cook is hosting the season premiere of Saturday Night Live a week from tonight. Too bad The Killers are the musical guest. Dane ruined them for me when he took the stage an hour late for his Chicago show in April. Apparently the first five songs of The Killer’s latest album were all the arena was allowed to play to pass the time, so I heard those songs so much they were burned into my brain, and not in a good way. Regardless, I’m really looking forward to next Saturday now.

Dane Cook’s HBO Special

Want to know what sucks about work? It gets in the way of fun. Seriously, what a drag. During the day I usually have XM’s The System playing (you get free online streaming when you subscribe). Yesterday morning, don’t ask me why, but I started thinking about XM’s comedy stations and wondered if they ever played Dane Cook. So I went to look what was on and dammit if it wasn’t a Dane Cook special right then and there! Here’s where work becomes a drag: I couldn’t listen to it. He swears and that would be inappropriate and unprofessional to have that coming out of the speakers even though I have them low enough that you can’t hear anything unless you’re in my cubicle. Regardless, I wouldn’t feel right listening to something like that at work even if I had a pair of headphones. But man, that stinks. I have a feeling it’s the same stuff we heard at his show in April and since we missed a good portion thanks to the idiots who arrived late and couldn’t find their seats, I’d like to see/hear it again. Luckily he’s got an HBO 90-minute comedy special airing on September 4th. According to his website it’s 90% new material and some stuff hasn’t been heard anywhere (which I’m assuming also means Chicago). I can’t wait!

Oh and not that he reads this, but my condolences to Dane; he recently lost his mother to cancer.

MI:3

Sorry guys, I should have posted sooner for input; I didn’t even see your comments until now and we’re back from the theatre. We saw Mission Impossible III which ended up getting zero votes. Go figure. Originally I was interested in seeing Over The Hedge, but I have to tell you, I didn’t care much for Madagascar and was worried it would be a lot like it. Plus there were a bunch of kids going into that theatre. So it was down to X-Men 3 or MI:3, and since Joe wanted to see both and I’m not that big of an X-Men fan, well you can see what led to the decision. As much as I think Tom Cruise is a complete loon, he is a damn fine actor. Almost sexy in his roles even though normally I don’t find him attractive. The movie was good, lots of stuff blew up, and someone lost their shoes which would make Dane Cook laugh (who, by the way, was on Leno last night and looked quite fetching in his suit … and will also be on Jimmy Kimmel tonight).

We tried a new theatre called Charlestowne 18, run by a company called Classic Cinemas. They had a theatre near our old apartment but we only saw one movie there because they didn’t have stadium seating. Luckily this theatre is newer so this wasn’t an issue. They also offer free refills on any size popcorn and pop. The matinee price is only $5.50 a person which is the cheapest we’ve found in the area. The Loews nearby charges over $7 for matinees now which is why we stopped going to the movies weekly. The screens are a bit smaller than we’re used to but you don’t notice it once the movie starts. Everything was so nice, we’re thinking about going back on Sunday to see X-Men 3 because I know Joe would really like to see it.

For lunch we went to Pepe’s. I’ve always loved their beef tacos and they didn’t disappoint. They are seasoned perfectly and the corn tortillas are so soft! Yum yum yum. I highly recommend their tacos. I used to go there all the time when there was one five minutes away but it has been a few years since we’ve ate there. It’s like nostalgia week for food, isn’t it?
