But you’re old!

You know you’re getting older when you actually keep forgetting that your birthday is coming up. I was reminded this morning when I came into work and there was a little banner on my cubicle and some cookies waiting for me. The girls brought in some food for lunch and signed a card for me too. I’m working tomorrow, which is my actual birthday, but only a half day, which is why they chose today to recognize it.

I was also reminded today that this will be the last year I’ll be in my twenties. Ugh, I really don’t want to think about it. I’m not so much concerned about turning thirty next year other than the fact that it means I’m inching closer and closer to DEATH.

So anyway, we had a nice relaxing evening at home tonight after picking up some yummy chinese food. We got orange chicken, dumplings, chicken fried rice, and curry chicken. The latter wasn’t spicy like they promised, though. I opened my presents from Joe which, as predicted right before I tore them open, was the first season of Newlyweds on DVD and Bomberman Jetters for the Gamecube. It’s not hard to please me.

Tomorrow we have the kids like a regular weekend. It’s weird treating my birthday like any other day because I usually do something special for it. I’m only working a half day so I can go to the hospital… I’ve been having what feels like an irregular heartbeat so they are going to hook me up to a heart monitor for 24 hours to see if they find anything. Cross your fingers they don’t.

Nothing

I have done absolutely nothing today. I mean nothing. Ok, that’s a bit of a lie. I did a few loads of laundry and made dinner. But that’s it. I didn’t crawl out of bed until 10 am and I didn’t shower until after noon. Talk about lazy! In my defense, I haven’t been feeling 100% for the past few weeks. I’ve had this sinus infection that won’t go away. I might just have to see my doctor after all.

In contrast, we will be busy tomorrow. Once the kids’ mom picks them up, we’ll be doing some shopping. On a Sunday. In the afternoon. During the holiday season. God help us.

Overdue, my ass (conclusion)

I called the library this morning and they searched the shelves for the cds they showed as missing, and they found one of them. So they said they’d take the other one off my account. Joe called them and they did the same thing; they found 4 out of the 5 they claimed were missing, so they removed the last one off his account too. Obviously it occurred to them if they had shelved these cds without first checking them in, that we weren’t lying about returning them. Who knows what happened to the two they couldn’t find, though.

Our choices, so we don’t ever have to deal with this shit again, are either having them check in our materials in front of us every time we drop them off, or find a new library. I’ve opted for the latter since I’m not very fond of the place to begin with. One of the neighboring towns has a library that is right off the main street I take back and forth to work, so it’s really convenient to use their facilities.

Joe and I applied for access to their library after work. They called our old library to confirm we were in good standing which I was a bit worried about, but there wasn’t a problem so they must have cleared our accounts of the fines already. Whew. Glad that is over with! I was a bit surprised that they charge to borrow dvds ($1), but we rent for free anyway thanks to my Discover Blockbuster card, so it’s no big deal. I just hope we don’t have any issues with this new library.

Overdue, my ass

I was falling asleep on the couch just a bit ago, but now I’m wide awake because I’m angry. I just logged into my library account to renew two books I have out and it says I have overdue fines because they claim I didn’t return two of the six cds I borrowed. Then I checked Joe’s account and it says that all five cds that he checked out are still MIA as well. WTF?!?

They were due on the 16th and we returned them the evening beforehand. It’s not my problem that they gave us bubble-wrap mailers to cart them around in and their return “bin” is really a table on the other side of a large slot, meaning someone could easily just grab them and take off with them while they are still listed as being with us.

I won’t pay them a cent over this, you can mark my words. I don’t care if they suspend my account and the fines rack up and show up on my credit report. I won’t pay for cds I returned. This was the first time we even checked out any materials and already we’re having issues. I knew there wasn’t something right about that place. It’s about 10 years behind our old library. I’d consider that maybe their computer system is wrong, but it’s odd that the other four cds I checked out have been accounted for. So the only thing I can guess is that someone stole the cds we checked out before they were checked in.

Tomorrow’s phone call should prove to be interesting. I will have to try and remain calm, but I’m seething at the moment. I don’t like being in this position; where I know I didn’t do anything wrong but don’t have the means to prove it.

Frustrated

Ugh, I hate how it’s after 9 pm and I’m just sitting down to relax. Don’t you hate it when you try to get ahead of the game and end up behind instead? When I got home I took a bath to relax a bit, then attempted to bake two batches of brownies (see previous entry), then had to run out to the store, then made food, and now I’m here. I wanted to watch tv, read my book, and surf, but time is running out. I also wanted to get to bed at a decent time, but I’m not even sure I should bother. Last night we went to bed at 10 pm and were excited at the prospect of getting extra sleep since we’re usually in bed after 11 pm. So what happened? We both woke up at 4 am and tossed and turned until Joe’s alarm went off at 5:30. And of course I fell asleep during the fifteen minutes between his alarm and mine. Isn’t that always the way? Damn this day!
