Soapy food

Ok … this is the strangest thing. But finally, the mystery is solved. Let me explain …

A couple of months ago we were looking for an open Chinese restaurant on a Sunday ’cause our favorite place isn’t open weekends. Well, we found this little joint and ate lunch there. They gave us so much food, though, that we took some home.

So dinnertime rolls around and we’re munching on our Chinese food (mongolian beef), when I took a sip of Pepsi and was completely disgusted because it tasted like soap! I urged Joe to take a sip, and he tasted it too. Thinking it was a bad can, we opened a new one and got the same exact taste. So then we thought maybe the case of Pepsi was bad. But when we took a sip of water, we got that terrible taste yet again. Baffled, we figured it must have been some strange chemical reaction produced by the spicy Chinese food and decided we wouldn’t be eating at that place again.

Dumbass = Me

Do you want to laugh your ass off at my stupidity?

Well awhile back, I was looking at the payment coupons for my car loan, and noticed the last coupon was for December of this year. So I told Joe, “Check it out, only a year more of payments and the car is paid off.” He suggested we use his company bonus, which got paid out on Friday, to pay off the loan so we’d have that extra money monthly to add into our Money Market account.

So a couple of days ago I called the bank to see what the pay-out amount was on my loan, and the girl told me $10,006. Before I made a complete fool out of myself, I asked her what the length of my loan was. “It’s 60 months,” she said, and then, “You have 33 payments left”. Doh! So I said, “Oh, so that means at the end of the year I will receive another coupon booklet?” “That’s right,” she replied, “Would you like the address to send the payoff to?” I told her no thanks.

I don’t know what either one of us was thinking. I had just taken that loan out in January of 2002. What made me think I was almost done paying it? It would have been nice to have that money for our future mortgage, though. Now it’ll be another three years before it’s paid off.

Chairs

We were at Target today and they have all their spring/summer stuff out already. I’ve got total spring fever now!

There were so many nice patio sets … I can’t wait til we get a house so we can have one! They also had some nice beige reclining plastic chairs. They looked almost identical to the ones we saw at Walmart at the end of the season last year. We were going to get them then, but there was only one left. So we’ll be shopping around the next month or so to find some (they were $13 each at Target and I have a feeling they will be cheaper at Walmart). I really want to get rid of the white plastic chairs we currently have, not just because they are ugly, but because they aren’t very comfortable either. The ones we saw today are lower to the ground and make a perfect chair to recline in outdoors and read a good book. I look forward to it. I have cabin fever. :p

A nice long day

It feels like it should be 6 pm already … not that I’m complaining. We were up at 7 am today, which is a bit early for a Sunday when we don’t have the kids. But we had things to do … and it has made the day seem longer so it’s nice.

First we went to Target for a few things, then to the grocery store to load up on the normal weekly staples. After dropping the stuff at home and having breakfast, we headed over to Public Storage to store our empty appliance boxes. They pushed hard for us to buy the insurance, but nothing in there is of enough value to warrant that, so we declined. We were worried about the 5×5 space being too small, but after unloading the van of boxes, we only filled it up about 1/3, so that’s cool.

We stopped at Kohl’s so I could return two rings I bought yesterday. I really liked them, but they were too big. They didn’t feel too big when I tried them on, but they were attached to a backing which makes it a bit difficult to gauge the true fit. They didn’t have any rings in my actual size (7), so I got two pairs of earrings instead.

Then we went to Walmart to get some Rubbermaid storage totes. We dropped those off at home and headed over to the nature center for a bit to say hello to the owls and falcons, then headed back home again.

I was excited to pack some stuff into the new storage totes and while I did some reorganizing of the closets, the kids toys, and the stuff that’s gotta go into storage, Joe started making a huge pot of homemade chicken soup. He also has homemade banana bread in the oven. My man is a good cook!

I also cleaned off the patio as there was a bunch of plaster and loose nails around from when the guys put in the new windows. I’m sure our lovely upstairs neighbors also just sweeped their garbage over the edge onto our area too. We get so much junk from that and the wind vortex that sends empty cans, takeout containers and various other junk onto our patio. So that’s all clean now and I filled up two bird feeders because I miss our little feathered friends.

So now we’re just relaxing. I doubt we’ll do much else today. It’s gorgeous out so we have the windows open and there’s a nice breeze coming in. I’m thinking we should have some lunch and settle down with a good book.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday!
