That’s the number of extra hours over my regular shift I worked this week, 2.5 of them tonight which sucked because who likes working late on a Friday especially before the beginning of a staycation? But at least I’m off now for the next nine days. I don’t doubt it’s gonna fly by, but I’m going to do my best to enjoy it before I go back to the craziness on the 26th. That includes sleeping in tomorrow. I can’t wait!

Good Time
I’m in a much better mood than yesterday. How can I not be? I only have one more day of work before Joe and I have 9 glorious days off together which couldn’t have come soon enough. This week has been rough – I worked 10 hours of overtime. I don’t like working extra hours because I value my free time but I keep reminding myself those long hours are going to make for a nice paycheck, which, if I wasn’t so practical, I’d put towards an iPad mini. I admit it – I want one. It’s the perfect size to keep in my purse. But I don’t need one, so I’ll hold off… for now.
I’ve got a lot of stuff planned for my week off, including finally redeeming the massage gift card Joe gave me last Christmas. I kept putting it off for when I’d feel less stressed but let’s face it, stressed is my middle name, so I’ve got an appointment for Monday for a one hour Swedish massage – my first ever. I hope it goes well.
Oh and that title? I’m listening to the latest Owl City album. It’s too easy to download music cheaply these days. I found a $5 MP3 credit for Amazon so the album only set me back $3.
Spanksgiving
I’m sad to say this year’s Thanksgiving potluck was a disappointment. Sure, there was plenty of food, but nowhere for everyone to sit together and enjoy it like last year. Why? Because my company recently leased one of the floors we were utilizing and consolidated everyone to the same floor. No more big board room and no big open area to set up tables for the feast. We had expressed that concern when the plans were first announced and we were told they’d likely rent out some empty space in the building for a few hours. Didn’t happen. Hey, who cares that they saved hundreds of thousands of dollars leasing out that space but couldn’t set aside a little bit for the once a year shindig, right? Who cares that everyone took their food back to their desks to eat because our break room with ten tables can’t seat 130+ people. Obviously they don’t. Plus my “team” went off somewhere to eat together and didn’t include me. Apparently now that my seat was moved to the other side of the wall it’s out of sight out of mind. I work my ass off for that place and that’s the THANKS I get. I usually work from home on Wednesdays but went into the office just for the event. Never again.
Busy & Leaving
Well it looks like I failed that blogging challenge only 8 days in. Awesome. Yesterday I worked late, went out for drinks with my coworkers afterward, then came home and overdosed on Thursday night sitcoms. By the time it occurred to me I needed to post an entry it was 10 pm and I was falling asleep. At that point I wasn’t going to get out a glowing screen and wake myself back up – I have a hard enough time sleeping as it is.
Apparently so do other people I work with. Two people I have worked closely with for years resigned recently. Their last day was today. It’s sad to see them go, but I completely understand why and don’t blame them as my employer is demanding and I’m fortunate enough to have a very good supervisor. I don’t know their supervisors or whether they are any good, but my point is that if I’m overwhelmed and I’ve got a good boss I can only imagine how someone might feel if their boss wasn’t so great.
Anyway, I’m posting this during my lunch break and have so much to do before I leave today. There’s no such thing as a relaxing Friday anymore. I’ll just be happy to go home… eventually. ;)
Things to Celebrate
The promotion at work is finalized! I will no longer be doing billing, but will be working on special projects, internal audits, and system improvements which in many ways I was already doing except now I’ll have more time to focus on those things, I have a cooler title, and I’ll be getting paid more. Woo hoo!
As a result this means I can actually take vacation time during the beginning of the month which I haven’t done in six years. So come October we are taking a two week road trip to the East coast, a trip we had planned, and scrapped, over seven years ago.
Right now the general plan is to make stops in Pennsylvania (Hershey, and maybe Pittsburgh), Boston, Massachusetts, and Portland, Maine. We picked October because it’s our favorite month and the Fall foliage should be at its peak according to some websites I’ve checked.
If anyone has recommendations on places to stay, or things to see, feel free to comment or send me an e-mail. I’m so excited!
