Clerks II / Carlos Mencia / DM

I almost shit myself when I read on My Boring Ass Life that Clerks II is being released July 21st instead of August 18th like I originally posted. It’s one of those rare times where we’d like to see the movie on opening night, but there is always a 50/50 chance said night will fall on a weekend we have the kids and we wouldn’t be able to go. However, I am happy to report that July 21st is a non-kids weekend so I can now breathe easy.

Another event that we’re kid-free and able to attend is Carlos Mencia‘s stop on his Punisher tour, although he didn’t make it easy. I got an e-mail from his fanclub about the 50 cities he’ll be performing in, so I went to his tour schedule and didn’t see anything in Illinois at all (it’s since been added to the page). My friend checked Ticketmaster just for the hell of it and we learned he’ll be in nearby Rosemont on October 27th. We quickly decided we have to go together (Joe too, of course), so I held my breath and checked my Yahoo calendar to see if it’s a kids weekend, but it’s not. Ticketmaster was holding a pre-sale and my friend closed the page because it required a password. Those passwords are never that hard to figure out (in fact it was in the e-mail I received, I just hadn’t paid any attention and didn’t notice it until I looked at it again later), so I told her to try entering ‘punisher’ and sure enough, it let us in. We searched for the best available seats for three people and it put us way in the back. I’ve been to that theatre once before to see The Kids In The Hall and I didn’t want those crappy seats. Since we were at work, I decided to try it again later from home, but wouldn’t you know it, the pre-sale had sold out by then! Tickets officially go on sale this Saturday, so I’ll just buy them then. Sure hope I can get my butt out of bed by 10 am. ;)

Sometime last year we completely switched the kids weekend cycle to make things easier since their mom kept wanting to “switch weekends” and that always bites because it really means having to “double-up” which can quickly get tiring having a full-time job and wanting to just relax on the weekend. Ever since then, most adults-only events, although not all (sorry Kevin), have automatically fallen on a weekend we’re free. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that our good luck continues.

** Ticketbastard doesn’t get a link since I don’t get my $4.50 processing charge refunded for the cancelled Depeche Mode show. They told me it’s not their fault it was cancelled. Yea, well it’s not my fault either. I guess I should e-mail Dave Gahan and tell him I want my money back. ;)

Clothes, games, and things

Other than an argument with my brother, Friday was a nice day despite the shitty weather (damn it is cold for being May). We took advantage of having the day off by running some errands. Our first stop was the Secretary of State office to renew my license plate sticker. Man, the lady who took care of me couldn’t have been more unfriendly. In fact, not a person working there looked the least bit happy. What is the deal with that? You’d think those people would be thankful they have a (local) government job since they typically pay much better than average. I know I would. Are the “customers” that nasty that these people can’t smile to the ones who are friendly? I think the word of the month is going to be hostile, since I’ve been sensing a lot of hostility in people as of late. Maybe it’s the whole change in seasons, I don’t know.

I decided the other day that come hell or high water I was getting some new clothes. It’s difficult for me to shop for clothes because I hate trying stuff on. I usually grab as many things as possible to take to the dressing room since after one round of trying things on I’m done. We hit a bunch of stores in the mall and I ended up with three new shirts and two necklaces. No pants like I was hoping though. I even tried on a pair of jeans in the same size and style I already own and even those didn’t fit properly, so I give up for now. It’s just too damn frustrating. I guess I’m going to have to work off these hips so I can fit into pants that don’t have lycra in them.

It started getting crowded in the mall around lunchtime (I was surprised at how many school-aged kids were there), so we left and grabbed McDonald’s for lunch (I had a salad) and a movie from Blockbuster. After watching some trash tv (Jerry Springer, People’s Court), we went upstairs and worked out while watching two episodes from Season 2 of 24. After working out for an hour, we brought the dvd downstairs and watched two more episodes, making it a total of four episodes watched back to back. I love that show! We have Season 1 too, but we didn’t get it until after Season 2, so we’re not really watching in order, but oh well, it’s still very interesting. We’re even getting pretty good at predicting who the bad guys are and what’s going to happen. It’s a lot of fun!

After our mini 24 marathon, we watched the movie we rented, Melinda and Melinda. Man, that was bad, no wonder I had never heard of it. I guess I should have picked up Just For Laughs instead but I was afraid all the material would be stuff I’ve seen before on Comedy Central. I wasn’t expecting the movie to suck so much since one of my favorite actors, Will Ferrell, is in it, but I’ve come to find I don’t really care for Woody Allen films at all.

Good things that came in the mail recently:
My $75 check from the magazine that published my photos.
An old school board game, Aggravation, that we won on ebay for the game night I’m hosting. (It smells like old people, but that’s ok!)

Oh and we also bought this trivia game at Target the other night. Not sure how good it is, but for $10 I don’t care. I’m sure Joe will kick my ass at it anyway since he’s the pop culture king.

Idol Drew

If you haven’t already wasted an hour and a half of your life, do not, I repeat, do not see Date Movie. It was completely awful. Scary Movie (1, 2 or 3) it is not. It tried, but it just couldn’t pull it off. I really like Alyson Hannigan, so a part of me is embarrassed for her and disappointed in her for choosing to do this movie. I can’t say enough horrible things about it. It had only a few amusing moments. Most stuff was over the top gross to the point I was losing my appetite, which really sucks when you’re chowing down on melt-in-your-mouth movie theatre popcorn.

The same evening, I popped My Date With Drew into the DVD player and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Even Joe, who had no intention of watching, got sucked in. It’s a very cute movie. I really liked the guy who has a crush on Drew Barrymore. He was just so nice and down to earth and you were really rooting for him to get his dream date.

So on the tv front, which of the American Idol girls (since I’ve not yet watched the boys compete) do you like? I thoroughly enjoyed Paris Bennett’s performance. She has got it going on! I was so floored by her, I can’t begin to explain it. I also like Katharine McPhee a lot. I think they are the top two singers. Kellie Pickler is adorable, but I don’t think she’s talented enough to make it all the way. Oh and I really really want to see Brenna Gethers get voted off right away. I cannot stand that girl. She thinks way too highly of herself and I’d rather see someone more down to earth and appreciative have their dream come true. I am very confident that this year’s winner will be a girl because the majority of the guys just lack that superstar quality.
