Incredible

We saw The Incredibles this afternoon. We ended up seeing it at the Marcus which was $1.25 LESS PER TICKET than the Sony Loews. If I was Marcus, I’d be sure to advertise their lower prices seeing how the two theatres aren’t that far from one another. Why pay $14.50 for two tickets when you can pay $12 to see the same movie?

I’m glad we went to see it because I was worried it wouldn’t come to dvd for a long time, and it was so good. I’ve yet to be disappointed with a Pixar film. That being said, the little short before the movie was quite strange. It was kinda creepy, if you ask me. I much preferred the one before Finding Nemo with the Santa globe.

We intended to see The Incredibles this morning, as we both really didn’t want to wait the unusually long time it takes for Pixar films to make it to DVD. After seeing the matinee price at the theatre, however, we ended up leaving, and are uncertain whether we’re going to try a different theatre next weekend or just wait to buy the dvd when it comes out since it would cost the same and then we’d own the movie.

As I lamented back in July, Sony Loews continues to increase their matinee prices. Last time we went to a movie, it was $6.75. They have increased it yet again, to $7.25!!! For a matinee! I remember what that was regular price! I refuse to pay that price when for $15.50 I can own the movie. It’s bad enough they want $8 for a Coke and a popcorn, and now this. And I don’t feel bad to admit here I sneak food and drinks into the movie theatre all the time because I am not paying their outrageous prices. Now the ticket prices are insane too.

I’m sure the movie theatre’s argument is that with the introduction of dvds and increasingly higher-tech home theatre systems with huge high-definition televisions, more people are staying home to enjoy movies, thus they need to increase their prices to stay in business. Perhaps it’s even true. But I am done paying for it. As I’ve ranted before, I am not going to pay those prices just to be annoyed by the idiots who have no respect for the people around them who actually want to hear the movie.

I have a love hate relationship with Sony to begin with. I think the majority of their products are piss-poor, yet they charge more than their competitors. So I guess it’s no surprise that their movie prices are over $1 more than the Marcus chain, for instance. The only reason we didn’t go to the Marcus to begin with is that their earliest showing was noon, and Sony’s was 10:45 am. I like going to the movies as early as possible so my entire afternoon is free for shopping. :)

I hope if you saw The Incredibles this weekend that you paid a decent price and enjoyed it. I can’t believe it’s two hours long! I really can’t wait to see it. Hopefully it won’t take a year before it’s available on dvd. :p

Rainbow Brite vs Mean Girls

We rented Mean Girls this evening since Joe’s daughter came to visit by herself. Bad idea. I thought Freaky Friday was rated PG-13, and it was ok, but it turns out it was only PG. Mean Girls, on the other hand, is rated PG-13 and for good reason – it is totally not appropriate for a 10 year old to be watching. Too much swearing and talking about sex. I was horrified, as was Joe, and we shut it off less than 10 minutes in. Luckily his daughter isn’t the type to have a temper tantrum and she was ok when we explained we were sorry, but it wasn’t appropriate for her. We ended up ordering Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer from On-Demand instead. Holy crap, I remember seeing this movie when I was her age! I gotta tell you, it’s pretty fun having kids around sometimes because you can re-live your childhood. ;)

Anyway, as soon as she goes to bed, which will be soon, we’ll finish watching Mean Girls because I really wanted to see it.

(Not Even) Home Alone 4

We borrowed Home Alone 4 from the library yesterday because the kids wanted to see it. Personally, I thought it really sucked, for several reasons, but I’ll only point out the main ones:

1) Lack of consistency between the previous movies and this one – The main character, Kevin, was younger in the movie than in the other parts, plus he had less siblings.

2) He was never really home alone at all in the movie.

3) The plot was so predictable, Joe pegged the outcome right away.

4) The movie gives kids of divorce false hope which is very irresponsible.

I rolled my eyes so much during the movie I’m surprised they didn’t fall out of my head. Then I realized that the main reason the movie sucked – it was made for tv. No wonder. There haven’t been many made-for-tv movies I’ve liked, with the exception of the mini-series V.

I give Home Alone 4 one star.

Jaws

I’m glad I didn’t end up buying the dvds just to complete my little marathon because Jaws 3 and Jaws: The Revenge are going to be on cable next weekend. Unfortunately since they are on two different networks, they are being shown out of sequence. The Revenge is on Friday, Sept 10th on AMC at 9 PM CDT and Part 3 is on the next day on TNT at 12 PM CDT. So if I want to watch them in order, I will have to tape them. I guess it’s no big deal since I’ll be at the eye doctor Saturday anyway.
