Lost In Translation

I finally got around to seeing Lost in Translation today. I had been contemplating ordering it on ppv for the past two weeks, but came across it on dvd at the library. Even better, seeing it for free.

To be perfectly honest, I was expecting this to suck. You know, since it got all this hype and whatnot. But it was interesting. It wasn’t a movie I could see owning, or even watching again, but I enjoyed it. I’ve always liked Bill Murray, and Scarlett Johanson was good too.

The only thing I was disappointed in was the ending. It seemed so blah. Where’s my closure? Also, and I’m opening comments for this, does anyone know what Bob said to Charlotte at the end? It’s bugging me!

Chai Tea and Sunday Brunch

We tried the following today at Starbucks (description taken from their site): “Tazo Chai Black tea blend with exotic spices, steamed milk and honey. Taste the flavors of India in this steamed Tazo blend of rare black teas, milk, exotic spices and comforting vanilla.”

It was quite yummy, and with non-fat milk, the grande was only 230 calories, of which I only had a third, so it was a nice low-calorie treat. In fact, it ended up being our breakfast since we were on the go from 7 am until just a bit ago. Now we’re finally unwinding from a day of shopping. We also caught an afternoon showing of Taking Lives which I thought was good. Then we came home, did a ton of laundry, and I decorated for Spring/Easter (may not be religious, but I still like the decorations) and changed the dining room and bathroom theme to something more Spring-like (even though it no longer feels like Spring outside).

Here’s this week’s Sunday Brunch:

What Happens at the Equinox

The calendar says it’s officially spring. Where I live there is still about 18″ of snow on the ground. BUT … I’m optimistic that I can get into my spring rituals soon.

1. Do you get a spring break? Nope. It’s not fair either. Is it any wonder children are happier than most adults? They get two weeks off around Christmas, a week in Spring, and the whole summer. And what do us working stiffs get? An entire 10 work days off a year. Whoopie-dee-doo!

2. Some of us are pretty casual about spring cleaning. Others go to it with a lot of gusto. Which are you? Well, I think I do “spring cleaning” every month ’cause I love to reorganize.

3. Is planting flowers or a vegetable garden on the agenda? If you count planting flowers in pots. Can’t wait to have a house and real garden!

4. Do you suffer from allergies and do they get worse in the spring? Nope. I’m lucky, considering my mom is allergic to everything.

5. How will you celebrate Easter this year? We’re going to St. Louis Easter weekend (Friday and Saturday) so we’re just going to be relaxing on Easter. We’re not very religious, if you couldn’t tell. If we weren’t going away for the weekend, we might have dinner with family.

Amber is the color of your energy

What a busy day. We slept til about 8:30 am, then exchanged little gifts (more on that later) and went to a noon showing of 50 First Dates which I really enjoyed. Although what was up with those awful Cure covers in the movie? Why couldn’t they just use the original songs? Anyway, I think Drew Barrymore (who is on a new SNL tonight, by the way) and Adam Sandler have great on-screen chemistry (ever see The Wedding Singer? We watched it for the umpteenth time last night). And for the first time in forever, not one person in the movie theatre annoyed me, which was especially surprising considering how crowded it was (with kids, no less).

Movies & Life

We ordered Dreamcatcher on Pay Per View tonight. My brother, upon hearing the news, asked “Why did you pay to see that gay movie?” but I thought it was better than some other Stephen King films I’ve seen. I never read the book for this one, so it was interesting. Besides, how would I know it sucks (which it didn’t, imho) if I hadn’t seen it before?

So I made fun of him for awhile to make me laugh. I think, if anything else, that the older I get, the less things bother me (at least for long). Especially when it comes to people that I can’t get through to on a serious level. I just don’t care as much anymore. If you are someone that I cannot reason with, I stop trying. That’s not to say people don’t piss me off, but I shrug it off easier because it’s more fun to enjoy life than go around being angry all the time. Maybe it’s because I have someone like Joe around. I wouldn’t be nearly as satisfied with my life right now if I was alone. Call me co-dependent. I just feel good right now. I’m listening to Disc 3 of my Cure box set while Joe plays Socom II online … I’m chatting with my other brother online, and I’m just happy. I love the wee hours … I am a night owl at heart. :)
