Bike rides and mini golf

I can’t believe I managed to drag my butt out of bed this morning at 8 am considering we didn’t get to bed until after 1 am! Yesterday was quite a day!

It started with a trip back to the forest preserve we had discovered a few weeks ago with our bikes in tow. This place has a gargantuan trail. We didn’t have a set plan, we just took off, stopping at the various intersections to decide which way to go next. The thing about this trail, however, is once you get to a certain point, it doesn’t make a loop, which means you have to come back the way you came. Well, we kept going and going and eventually realized we had gone over three miles because it connects to the Danada Forest Preserve and Equestrian Center. We rode around a bit so I could take pictures of the horses and the half-mile oval racetrack the forest preserve district has kept in tact.

In total, we rode 7 or 8 miles. Not bad considering that we haven’t ridden our bikes at all this year! Hell, I think that’s the most exercise we’ve gotten all summer. What a high, though! Sure, I thought I was going to die on that last mile, but it felt damn good too. My legs don’t even hurt that much today like I was expecting.

On the way back home we stopped at Subway to grab lunch. Afterwards we showered and took off for my parents’ place. We got there around 3:30 and hung out for a bit and had dinner. My dad had grilled some burgers and hot dogs, or more like murdered them ten times over. I told my mom I will grill them next time. He keeps the burgers on the grill for ten minutes each side!!! That is way too long which is why they are dry.

My mom wanted to go to this place in Indiana where they have go-karts, batting cages, an arcade, and miniature golf. She had free coupons for the golf and we agreed to go, but weren’t exactly looking forward to it. I’m glad we went, however, because we had a blast!! My brothers can actually be fun to hang out with when they want to be. I even got two holes in one without even trying!

We played air hockey, skeeball, and some other pointless games at the arcade. Even though it was very crowded, it didn’t feel overwhelming which was nice. When we got back to my parents’ we all played Aggravation, including my younger brother’s new girlfriend. You should have seen how mad he was getting earlier in the day when we were teasing him for meeting her on MySpace. He has mellowed out, though, and now you can tease him without him storming off to his room. It’s nice because who wants to be serious all the time?

We didn’t get home until 1 am which means I’m going to have a hell of a time getting back into our sleep schedule for work tomorrow, but it was worth it.

  1. That Danada place is where we did our charity 5K walk a few months ago. We posed at the horse track gates, but I never got a copy of the photo. Damn! I need to ask about that one.

  2. I love driving go-karts. They are so fun. I went on them last April with my six-year-old nephew, while my sister drove my five-year-old niece. My nephew kept telling me to go faster and catch up to his mom…despite the fact I tried to tell them that we’d lapped her and were actually ahead:)
