Scarecrow Festival

After all the anticipation, I decided not to go see Employee of the Month, starring Dane Cook, today. I just lost the enthusiasm after watching a half hour special on it . I could be way off base, but it doesn’t look all that funny. Also, Jessica Simpson can’t act. She is another Neve Campbell: she plays the same character in all her roles. I just wasn’t in the mood for it. I’m not saying I won’t end up seeing it at some point, but I’m in no hurry.

Besides, it was way too nice outside to spend it inside a theatre, so we went to St. Charles’ Scarecrow Festival. It was fantastic, other than the parking situation, although we did luck out with a space nearby when we saw someone pulling out. Overall the fest was so much better than the Schaumburg one last month. The craft booths alone were great; I got a lot of cool bracelet ideas since half the booths were selling homemade jewelry.

After browsing the crafts, we sat by Fox River and munched on cheese fries for me, and a corn dog and fries for Joe, soaking up the sun and just enjoying the day. This fest is definitely one that we’ll be returning to in the future.

  1. Employee of the Month was terrible. You made a good choice not to go see it, even though you’re a big Dane Cook fan.

I saw it with my boyfriend on Saturday… sort of spur of the moment. I did not have a burning desire to see this movie because I can’t stand Jessica Simpson and based on the commercials I knew it would suck. But I thought, hey, at least I’m going into this movie knowing it won’t be good, so maybe I will get a few laughs out of it if I don’t expect much. Usually that works. But not this time. I seriously wanted to just walk out. As it turns out, so did Brett. I wish we’d told each other!

Anyway, I saw this movie with a pretty full theater. There were so many “jokes” in the movie that not one person even laughed at… there was just silence. It was even weirder because the actors sort of paused after these lines, as if to wait for the audience to stop laughing. So it really stood out as an unfunny joke.

And Jessica Simpson was just awful of course. I can’t stand being spammed with her image on TV and in magazines, and this was actually the first time I’d seen her “acting”. All she does is wear low cut shirts and bat her eyelashes. She barely has any lines in the movie (which I guess is a good thing)… she just stands around.

I barely laughed at all in this movie… the only sightly funny parts are already shown in the commercials.

So save yourself 10 bucks and avoid this movie! I can’t even recommend it as a rental either.
