What a busy/frustrating weekend.
First, on Friday evening, I tried posting an entry about the fire that was close to where I work. But MT gave me an error. Since Joe and the kids were on their way, I didn’t have time to figure out what was going on.
Saturday we took the kids to my parent’s house for my brother’s 17th birthday. They ran around with the other kids and had a grand time. I got some cute pictures of the boy and his new “girlfriend”, my cousin’s daughter.
Today we took the kids back home, and did some shopping. After much deliberation, I decided to buy the Aiptek Mini Pencam from a local camera store. Suffice to say, I won’t be keeping it, and here’s why –
To start, the included batteries were dead. So we bought some, and I took some test shots. To my dismay, I realized the damn thing beeps everytime you take a picture. Oh yea, that’s going to make it so much easier to secretly take photos! Then when I got home I had a hell of a time getting the computer to recognize the camera. I finally got it to work, and noticed that there were already photos on the camera. Apparently this older couple bought it and took it back to the store. Dumbasses didn’t even bother to delete the photos first. And the photo quality – horrible! I’m not expecting the quality to be fabulous, but for $80 it shouldn’t look like complete crap. Furthermore, I couldn’t get my computer to utilize the webcam feature, and it kept wanting to reinstall the drivers everytime I hooked it up. It just isn’t worth the price and aggravation. Luckily I checked beforehand that I could return it for a full refund.
So after all that, I started working on MT. Due to the database being corrupt, I had to reinstall. This time I’m using MYSQL, so there’s less of a chance of further problems, although I’ve learned a valueable lesson about exporting the entries weekly as a backup. Unfortunately, MT was so screwed up that when I tried to export it was only providing me the first month (May 2002) of entries. So the archives are gone, unless I want to manually build an export file and import it into MT. No thanks.
Once again, the weekend has passed far too quickly. I didn’t even get to catch up on my sleep! :p
I had the same thing with the PenCam. I was all excited to get it and it couldn’t have beeb more disappointing. It even feels like a plasticy piece of crap. And I thought for sure there had to be somewhere to turn off the beeping, but nope. I was pretty surprised since it seemed like a lot of people loved their. I don’t know, maybe I was just expecting something else.
