Man, we were so busy this weekend, but we had a bunch of fun, so it’s good.
Friday we stopped at Blockbuster for a movie (Shanghi Knights, which wasn’t very good) before stopping at Joe’s friend’s house to get some cable tools. Afterwards, we went to Circuit City to pick up the APC UPS we had ordered online for my brother’s computer. I’d like to know how Circuit City thinks their current “Express Pickup” procedure is actually express when it’s anything but. Instead of going straight to Merchandise Pickup, the logical place you’d go, we were told to first stop by the Customer Service counter. The same counter that typically has a line of people returning items. Oh yea, that’s express – not! Only after they checked our printed receipt and I.D. were we allowed to actually pick up our merchandise. Ridiculous! The only reason we purchased online in the first place was to get the sweet $20 rebate which made the final price only $20. Too bad the rebates were one per person, per household, or I would have got another one for us.
Friday night we were messing with my UPS, trying to figure out if it was the cause of this weird beep we’d been hearing every 10-12 minutes, when the power went out. I thought for a second that I blew a fuse, but the entire building, plus the houses behind our building, were out of power too. We heard police sirens around the same time this happened, which was rather creepy. The power came back on a half hour later, though.
Saturday we both went to the doctor. Me for a followup visit to check on my ears (had water trapped in them recently) and Joe to check on the pain he’s been getting in his hand (we suspect arthritis). Here’s the interesting part – we learned that Joe has high blood pressure. I, on the other hand, always have great blood pressure every single time I get it checked. It’s so ironic, because Joe is a calm person, and I’m the uptight one. I think maybe he internalizes his frustrations, though. I get really pissed, but usually five minutes later I’ve already forgotten all about it. He just stews when he’s in a mood. Or maybe there’s just too much sodium in his diet. Either way, it makes for good teasing. I’ve already taken to saying, “You better calm down so your blood pressure doesn’t go up!” Yea, I’m a great girlfriend, I know.
After the doctor, we went to the library and checked out a bunch of cds. I really love our library. They are very up to date on all their audio visual materials. We ate some lunch when we got home, and then headed over to my parents’ so Joe could install my brother’s new computer. While Joe was doing that, my mom and I went to my grandparents’ old house. It was recently sold, so she wanted me to take photos of it. I asked her if it felt weird knowing that she’d never have another reason to ever drive down that street again. It wasn’t a very emotional experience for me, probably because the house was void of all furniture, which is what made it my grandparents’ place to begin with. The more I think about it now, though, the sadder it makes me. When I was younger, I always caught toads by my grandparents’ house. They were always between their house and the neighbors’. So for old times sake, we went toad “hunting”. My mom didn’t think there would be any, but sure enough, I found three without even looking very hard. I took a few photos of them before setting them free before we headed inside to take pictures. Afterwards, we went to McDonald’s – my mom had a burger and I had an order of small fries, then went home for dinner! Hahaha, I don’t know why she wanted to eat before we ate, but whatever. Joe and I ended up leaving shortly after my cousins came over because we wanted to play tennis.
Man, do I suck at tennis! It was my first time playing in like ten years, though. I figured that if we found a physical activity that was fun, we’d be more apt to do it. Despite our suckage, we had lots of fun. Walmart sells really nice Wilson rackets for less than $20 each. I’m sure they’re not professional quality, but we’re amateurs so who cares? I think we gave the neighbors a good show, though. The court we were in is surrounded by people’s back yards and most of them have decks without fences. There were a couple of people sitting outside, probably laughing at us. Or that could be my imagination. Not that I care. The older I get, the less I care what other people think. We were so tired after playing that we sat around the rest of the night watching tv.
This morning we saw 28 Days Later at the Loews theater by the mall. We usually don’t go there, but we wanted to use two of the free passes our apartment management gave us. All the theaters are stadium seating, which is good, because once you go stadium seating, you never go back. We splurged a little and got pretzel bites and a Coke since the admission was free. Normally we sneak in our snacks. I mean, sheesh, those two things were over $8! That is so nuts. The movie was interesting. We ended up sitting pretty close to the screen even though the theater was empty except for one other couple and a guy by himself. It kinda creeped me out having people behind me during a horror movie.
We stopped at Target after the movie and I got a couple of new shirts. I’ve grown tired of wearing large t-shirts and have started purchasing more “form-fitting” shirts. I already told Joe that as soon as I get thinner, I’m going to be wearing really tight shirts. I just don’t want to show off my fat rolls, so I have to lose the weight first. We also got some more Play-Doh, and Play-Doh molding tools. There was a box containing more than 50 pieces for $8. I’m probably more excited about it than the kids will be.
We also went to a local festival and played Bingo. I won $16, which translates to $10 since we spent $6 playing Bingo. We also got a $4 lemonade (what a rip-off) that wasn’t even that tasty. We went out for pizza elsewhere since the carnival prices are crazy and after all was said and done, spent a total of $0.78 for three games of Bingo, a lemonade, two slices of pizza and a coke. Not bad.
I want to play tennis again today but it looks like it’s gonna rain so we’ll probably spend the rest of the evening in watching tv. Sex and the City is on in an hour. I can’t believe it’s back to work for another week. We’re taking another mini-vacation at the end of next month, so we need to figure out where we’re going to go. For now, I’m going to go sit down and do absolutely nothing.
