Ok, I really don’t understand website design anymore because I don’t mess with it like I used to, but does anyone have an idea what the fuck is wrong with my blog? I can only use a few select WordPress templates. Most either give a 404 error instead of showing my index page or they will display the basic design and sidebar but put a 404 error within the part where the latest entries should appear. Seeing as how they don’t all do that, I need to know what’s different about this one I’m using compared to the others that make it work while the others do not. It’s driving me apeshit.
I was poking around last night and gave up, switching it to the one template that seems to be working, but I’d really like to be able to switch templates based on seasons/holidays. I am really aggravated and short of exporting everything, reinstalling, and then importing all my old entries, I don’t know how to fix it. And I really don’t want to do that because ultimately I don’t give a shit what this site looks like, but it would be nice to change it up once in awhile.
Where are the WordPress elves when you need them?
My first guess was that maybe you are running an outdated version of WP, but when I went to the admin panel to check, I see that you are pretty up to date.
Hmmm. My only other suggestion is to disable all of your plugins, then install whichever theme you want to use, then one at a time re-activate your plugins and check your site after enabling each one. If you do this one at a time you should be able to figure out which plugin might be incompatible. There might be an upgrade available for the problem plugin.
Failing that… I’m stumped too.
