Amber is the color of your energy

What a busy day. We slept til about 8:30 am, then exchanged little gifts (more on that later) and went to a noon showing of 50 First Dates which I really enjoyed. Although what was up with those awful Cure covers in the movie? Why couldn’t they just use the original songs? Anyway, I think Drew Barrymore (who is on a new SNL tonight, by the way) and Adam Sandler have great on-screen chemistry (ever see The Wedding Singer? We watched it for the umpteenth time last night). And for the first time in forever, not one person in the movie theatre annoyed me, which was especially surprising considering how crowded it was (with kids, no less).

After the movie we did some shopping. I got a giftcard from Bed Bath and Beyond from Discover (cash back award bonus) and was in heaven browsing the store. I really wanted to get this awesome spice rack they had but we just don’t have the counter space right now. In fact, there were a few things I wanted that we just don’t have room for. I want a house so bad! So I bought some produce trays for inside the refrigerator and two “veggie savers” that reduce the gases that vegetables and fruits give off which extends their edible life. They do work too, in case you’re skeptical.

After that we went to Walmart for a bunch of stuff, including a new lamp for the living room. The halogen lamp we currently have has started to give us trouble – the lowest light setting doesn’t turn on unless you play with the switch a bit. And the next setting up is way too bright. So we ended up moving it into the bedroom when we got home so I have some extra light on my side of the bed when I’m reading. The new lamp gives off a nicer white light, which I like. We need to get a three-way bulb though so we can adjust the brightness.

I ended up doing a lot of cleaning tonight. I guess I was just in the mood, and it doesn’t strike often, so I took advantage of it – I cleaned out the refrigerator, the bathroom got a heavy-duty cleaning (I reserve it for once a month), and I reorganized my closet, the bathroom cabinets, and the linen closet.

At my request, Joe made some homemade chicken soup for dinner which was delicious. It is without a doubt the best chicken soup I’ve ever tasted! Between that and the tortellini soup we have weekly, we go through a lot of chicken stock, but it’s still much healthier than going out to eat.

Getting back to the gifts I mentioned earlier … I gave Joe a card and a stuffed frog because he’s my sleepy froggie. He gave me a cute heart-shaped pillar candle holder covered in Special Dark miniatures (my favorite), a mixed bouquet of flowers, and another Poohbear valentine. See, yesterday he left me little Poohbear valentines around the apartment, as well as one in the car along with a beautiful purple tulip. Sadly, the tulip did not make it as it had frozen and then subsequently wilted when I took it inside my warm office. The mixed flowers were a replacement for the other tulips Joe had hidden in his van that also froze. They are still in there as I type this because we’re afraid to see what will happen when we bring them inside. I wonder if we can salvage them if we put them in the refrigerator and let them defrost slowly though. What do you think?
