The Smithsonian was sponsoring a Museum Day Live program last Saturday that included free admission to a museum of choice for one person and a guest. Since we had never visited the Milwaukee Art Museum before we decided to take advantage of the program and check it out. It was… ok. I mean, I’m not a huge fan of some of the stuff that constitutes art (some of it is actually downright creepy), but there was enough to hold our interest for about two hours. I did enjoy their Georgia O’Keeffe collection as well as the Chihuly glass in the lobby, though.
After the museum we visited a restaurant called The Comet Cafe that had been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives a few years ago. I was a bit bummed to learn that their famous meatloaf and mac & cheese isn’t available until after 4pm on the weekends, so we had to settle for sandwiches which were just ok. The cupcake we took to go was pretty damn good, however – chocolate cake with a thick almond frosting. All in all it was a nice little day-trip up north.
