Dogs
Anyone who reads this blogs knows I’m really not a dog person, so I was a bit apprehensive when my SIL came to stay with us and brought her dog, but she was so well-behaved that I actually started thinking maybe I should get a dog. The only thing that still throws me off is the whole picking up the poop thing. But seeing as how I might not ever be able to have a cat, a dog would be the next best thing. I want a small dog like a Maltese or Yorkshire, though.
RIP Mrs. Toad
Mrs. Toad died sometime between May 23rd and 24th. I went to check on her the morning of the 24th and she was buried underneath the moss in her cage and she was cold and stiff. I waited for Joe to get home from work to make sure she really was dead. I was worried that was going to happen because over the past month she had stopped eating. No matter how many meal worms or crickets we’d put in front of her she just had no interest in them. I guess she was sick, but I don’t know. I feel guilty that we didn’t do more for her but I had convinced myself she’d eat again once she got hungry enough. I guess not. We buried her behind our unit and I told Joe if he finds another toad not to bring it home because they aren’t really all that interesting to begin with.
Mice
So if you’ve keeping track we’re down to two pet mice that have decided to live past their life expectancy. I feel like they are doing it on purpose because I told Joe once they’ve died I was thinking of either getting a hamster or fostering some cats/kittens. So they are holding me back!
We also have an uninvited guest – a wild mouse. I first spotted it the day before we went to Wisconsin. I was working from home and saw it run past me three different times. Joe bought some humane traps at the store on the way home from work which we set before we went away for those couple of days but when we got home there was no mouse and the bait in the traps were untouched. We assumed it must have gotten out of the house. Then yesterday I saw it in the laundry room and figured it was getting in from the garage under the drywall where Joe hadn’t finished putting the trim up on the laundry room side. So he did that last night and we thought that would be that. Nope. This morning I saw that damn mouse in my kitchen! So now Joe has purchased different traps and I don’t care if we have to kill the thing – I just want it out of my house. When we were cleaning under the couch a few days ago there was a bunch of mouse poop there which we assumed was left on May 16th when the mouse first showed up, but now I’m starting to wonder if it’s been here all the time, although no more poop has materialized since.
Awww, what a cute pup! RIP Mrs Toad :(
