Ever have so many things happen in the span of a couple of days that you just don’t feel like writing all the entries to cover it all? Yea, me too, so here’s the longish cliff notes:
Friday we enjoyed some nachos, fried ravioli, baby chocolate covered frozen bananas, etc. at the Taste of Chicago. Once we got home, my copy of the new Cure album had finally arrived, so I listened to it from start to finish. First impression – the songs I hadn’t heard yet don’t move me, and the ones I have already listened to are better live. Around 4pm we went to a barbecue Joe’s friend was having at the house he just bought three weeks ago. Despite it being an older home, I still fell in love with all that space and it just depressed the hell out of me after coming home and looking online at what we can currently afford. On top of that, I just started thinking about all the negative/sad things that have happened to me, which included me really missing my deceased grandparents, and I ended up crying myself to sleep.
Saturday morning we saw Spiderman 2 which was really good. I wasn’t even looking forward to it, so I was surprised. I’d say it was better than the first one too. This isn’t a spoiler, but I just want to publicly pat myself on the back for noticing that the subway scenes were actually shot in Chicago. Even though they used CGI to add in New York buildings, I turned to Joe during the movie and said “that looks like the L in the Chicago Loop” and when we got home he looked it up on the Internet Movie Database and confirmed it. After the movie, we drove around looking at townhomes (just the outsides) and were disappointed with what’s available. It started raining really hard and Joe noticed that my car leaks! Water was coming into the back seat via the top of the back window and the driver’s side back door!!! I was livid because I KNOW it’s due to that girl who rear-ended me in January and the crappy workmanship of the body shop. That door doesn’t close flush with the panel that makes up the tail-light like it does on the other side of the car. I’m just not sure if there’s anything I can do about it now, over six months later.
Sunday we picked up Joe’s kids at 10 am, took them to breakfast, did a little shopping, then spent the day at Joe’s parents’ house. Luckily it was warm enough to swim, so we spent a few hours doing that. Joe also pulled a bunch of stuff from the “cubby hole” area of his parents’ house since they are moving in two months. You would not believe how many old Star Wars toys were in there, as well as old letters, cards, and pictures from his “previous life”, as he calls it. We saw a pretty cool fireworks show that evening and then made our way home. It was late (11 pm), but we stayed up a bit, going through Joe’s old photos. He shredded most of them this morning as they were primarily of him and his ex. I have never seen so many photos of two people in my life and most of these were taken when they were in high school! It didn’t bother me to look at them as I found them entertaining, and of course made fun of Joe for all the matching outfits they wore. I swear they must have attended 50 dances in high school with all the various formal wear.
This morning we slept in and then did some grocery shopping. I also got my first comment spam on the site which was bewildering as this site is password protected. So I spent a good part of the day closing comments on all the entries on the site. We also rented Eurotrip which wasn’t really that good except Matt Damon’s little part. I made some yummy spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and we managed to do some good working out to help make up for all the crap we’ve eaten the past few days. I really need to get back on track. I haven’t lost any weight in over a month now. I swear, it was much easier to lose weight in the winter for some reason.
Anyway, now that we’re all caught up, let me just say I am not happy to be returning to work tomorrow. They’ve made a lot of changes and they really expect a lot out of our little department lately. Ugh. At least it’s a four day week.
In other news, once we do get a house I am buying a huge HDTV and I’m never going to the movies again. With the ever-increasing prices, even for a matinee (it’s up to $6.75 a person!), it’s cheaper to buy the dvd. Joe’s friend has a huge HDTV and the picture is just incredible. And just think, no annoying people to deal with as you enjoy your movie. You can pee whenever you want, eat whatever you want, and sit more comfortably than in a movie theater. I can’t wait.
