My iPod takes a crap

Something decided to make my iPod sick today. I was listening to it fine before lunch, yet after work when I went to listen to something in the car, it suddenly told me I had no podcasts or music! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I even reset it thinking it was just a glitch, but it still said “no music” and “no podcasts”. My notes, photos, and games were still there, however.

As soon as I got home, I plugged it into iTunes thinking that would solve the issue. iTunes informed me that it could not read my iPod and I needed to “restore” it, which removed all the content and reset it back to the factory settings. Talk about a suck fest!

The thing is, re-loading my data was quick and easy. I even had the forethought to grab everything I had dumped onto the drive in disk mode and copy it to my desktop before “restoring”, so I didn’t lose my notes. I went upstairs to work out while 34 GB of crap transferred. So overall, getting my iPod back to the way it was before was relatively painless.

What sucks is that my favorite game, Peggle, had to be synched again so I lost all my progress… and I was on the very last stage of the game!!! I never ever beat games so that totally blows. That’s hours of effort right down the drain.

But the absolute worst part is I still don’t know what caused this to happen and how to prevent it from happening again. What if I was on vacation and couldn’t restore my music? I guess I’d be shit out of luck, huh? Not cool, Apple!

FIL #12

Tmobile was hit with a class action suit recently over its charging customers for unwanted text messages. It’s about frickin time! My biggest complaint with them is how I can’t turn off text messaging. I’m not a teenage girl and I don’t like that people continue to text me when I don’t have a plan and have to pay per text. I swear those cellphone companies are all sorts of greedy. I hope I can get some money back for this bullshit.

More cute pets! Heart-shaped ferrets and a hammy going for a dip (I don’t condone bathing your hamster, but it’s still a cute shot). Oh and the cutest kitty paws in the world.

It’s not nice to laugh at other’s people’s misfortune but I admit, this is kinda funny. Like someone in the comments of the article already said, it’s a Whopper of an error. I’ve always thought debit cards were a risky idea and don’t have one. Had it been a credit card, these poor people wouldn’t be getting slapped with fees for an overdrawn account. A credit card offers more protection because you’re not messing around with the money you need for bills and whatnot.

I heart my iPod

So now that I’ve given into iTunes, I’ve been going a little nuts looking for stuff to add to my iPod. I don’t know if it’s more appropriate to say I’m obsessed with my iPod, or just that owning an iPod has reawakened my love of music.

Gifts from my husband

I honestly never thought I’d get so attached to this little device. I’ve always got it on me. I listen to it on the way to work, during work, and on the drive home. I watch podcasts during my lunch break too, and sometimes I even fall asleep listening to music. It’s crazy!

And music and podcasts aren’t where it ends. In addition to the nearly 40 GB of music I’ve already amassed, I’ve discovered how to convert my Yahoo! contacts list to a format my iPod can view as well as how to add text files to the notes category. I’m a list-maker so I’ve got a running To Do and grocery list on there. I even added directions to the Excel class I’m taking next week.

Oh and the iPod games are pretty nice for $5. I downloaded Peggle and it’s just as fun as the PC version I played in evaluation mode last year.

I don’t need to mention how I’m addicted to Podcasts now too, right? So far, these are the ones I download faithfully:

Around The Net
Best of YouTube
Comedy Central: Standup (Video)
Diggnation
The Perfect Mix
The Soup Video Podcast
A State of Trance Official Podcast
VH1 Best Week Ever
1UP.com – 1UP Show

Which ones do you recommend? I like the video ones more than the audio.

A disclaimer

I’m a little burnt out on the internet. I’ve considered shutting down this blog, but I do like keeping record of things that have happened; I can’t tell you how many times I’ve searched my own site to verify something. That being said, I highly suggest you subscribe to this site’s feed instead of checking here everyday, otherwise you’re just wasting your time.

My husband, my hero

Monday morning while I was blow-drying my hair, a fuse blew. I went into the garage to try and reset the fuse, but couldn’t reach the fuse box, so I called Joe, who was already on his way to work. He explained I’d have to squeeze between his motorcycle and the various junk to reach over to the fuse box but I wasn’t seeing how that was possible. He told me to stand by, as he was turning around to come back home. I protested, but he insisted.

Ten minutes later he was home and could see there wasn’t any way to squeeze between the stuff to get to the fuse box, so he moved some stuff around and reset the fuse. The best part? He did all this without any guilt trips and that means the world to me. That’s why he’s my hero – he takes care of me and when he does something that might inconvenience himself, he doesn’t act like it. It’s more than I can say for myself, even.

You win, iTunes

So I gave into iTunes. Make no mistake about it – I’m not happy about it. But it was a necessary evil. I loaded all my music to the library, made sure all the album art was there, then deleted everything from my iPod and reloaded it through iTunes. I got tired of running iTunes to get iPod updates and have it “evaluate” all the music already on my iPod and remove the album art in the process. I don’t get why it insists on doing these things, but I feel like it’s a big bully that is forcing me to use it if I want my cover art to remain intact. So whatever. I will be begrudgingly using it to update my iPod moving forward.

Crazy iPod volume

I learned today that if you accidentally turn the volume on your iPod all the way to the max, everything sounds like complete crap through your car stereo. Once I put it about halfway and then turned up the stereo’s sound everything was good again. Whew! For a moment there I thought my iPod was broken and I was very very sad. I use it every day without fail.
