24: 10pm – 11pm

Wow, that was a good episode of 24!

The best part by far was Jack storming the place and taking everyone out single-handedly. You could see the determination on his face. How sick is it that I love watching him maim and kill people? He has never looked sexier! And when he said, “Say hi to your brother”, that was so cold, yet so perfect.

Oh, I knew Audrey wasn’t dead! From the very beginning I just had a feeling. So I guess the rest of this season will be about Jack’s mission to rescue her?

I’m just happy we have Jack back. As someone wrote on a 24 blog, it was starting to feel like Jack was a guest on his own show.

24: 6 pm – 7 pm

Ok, now this was a good episode! We had some Jack action, we got to see Aaron again, and Martha did what I knew she was going to do the minute she started hacking away at the kiwi. I just don’t understand why after almost two years away from Charles she’s in a worse mental state than when all the shit went down right in front of her. I thought she was stronger than that. And while I love Aaron, I’m really surprised he’s with her if she’s that unstable. It was cute getting a glimpse of a photo of the two together, though.

What gets my goat the most from this episode was this line from Bill to Ricky Schroder’s character: “Jack has some new information so he’s no longer dispensable”. The fact that he ever was in their eyes is blasphemous. How dare they! Jack is never ever dispensable. After five horrible instances where Jack saved the day you’d think they’d get that. Yet every time it’s this blase’ attitude like if he dies, then he dies. I can tell it’s really starting to piss off Chloe. Maybe she’s secretly in love with Jack and will battle Audrey later in the day. Wouldn’t that be fun to watch? Then Morris can try to break it up but have his hip broken because the actor is 61 years old! I know! WTF? I am shocked.

Anyway, Jack must have gotten hurt when he got hurled down those stairs. Broken ribs maybe? He’ll probably be running around fine in an hour.

Slurpees, shopping, and vitamin D

Commercials don’t seem to affect me as much as things people write in their blogs. For instance, this afternoon I got a powerful craving for a 7-Eleven Slurpee after someone mentioned they have Crystal Light slurpees there. I can’t tell you the last time I even thought of slurpees or wanted one, but suddenly I couldn’t think of anything tastier. Of course my mean husband wouldn’t go out and get me one. How dare he deny me! He said “let’s go tomorrow”. Yea, like I’m going to want one then.

I have this sudden inexplicable urge to spend money. I’ve been tempted to go online and buy stuff for no real reason. Mostly CDs and games for my DS. I guess after not spending money for so long I feel the need for some retail therapy. It’s so weird. Sometimes just adding stuff to my cart is enough, however. Then I decide I don’t want said item so much after all. No harm, no foul.

Speaking of online shopping, today I went to Old Navy’s site because I wanted more tank tops, but guess what? They have over 20 different tank top styles and not one of them are the “perfect fit” that I own and like. No, they have a bazillion of those stupid long tanks for super skinny bitches but none for the average woman. Look Old Navy, women have curves. Only teenage girls or women built like boys can pull of that long tank top look without the fat bursting out the sides. How dare you cut out a good chunk of your customers in the name of “fashion”. You know what fashion is to me? Being comfortable and not squeezing into clothes just so I can look like everyone else.

This is weird. I started taking Vitamin D supplements last year because I heard it helps with depression, particularly in the winter months. Well, at first it did seem to help. Then my mom gave me some vitamin D she didn’t want anymore, and because it was going to expire before mine, I starting taking hers to use it up first. Well I didn’t feel as good then. Now that they ran out last week and I’m back to mine, I feel better again. How weird is that? I didn’t think to look at the dosage so maybe mine is higher. I just know with the incredible pressure I’m under at work I would have normally had a breakdown by now and I’m taking it (mostly) in stride. I can’t see any reason for this other than the vitamin D. Oh and if you’ve ever contemplated taking vitamins, I highly suggest it. I also take a multi vitamin every day going on as few years now and I have not had one cold. I used to get sick all the time so it really does make a difference! That and a yearly flu shot.

Have you seen that show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? It’s fun to watch, yet kind of sad how many questions I didn’t know the answers to. I thought for sure it would be easy. The thing is, it’s not that any of those kids are smarter than the adults, it’s just that the knowledge is still fresh in their young little minds. There’s a lot of truth in the saying, “use it or lose it”. I did notice that if I stuck with the first answer that came to mind instead of analyzing it to death, 8 times out of 10 I was correct. So the knowledge must still be there tucked back into the far recess of my subconscious.

24: The last two EPs

Assad is dead and that sucks. He was a cool character.

Jack is in more trouble. What’s with him and consulates? And is he a total moron all of a sudden? Or is this keeping in line with the whole “I don’t know how to do this anymore” crap? Why did he walk straight toward the door as if he was going to stroll right out of there? “Kill the American” it said on next week’s preview. It would be something if Jack was killed this season. They keep it up with this boring plot and I won’t care so much. This season isn’t doing it for me.

Comedy is all relative

Joe was flipping channels the other night and saw that Sarah Silverman’s Jesus is Magic was coming on Showtime, so he DVR’d it for me. I figured since my only experience seeing her stand-up act was a short bit on the most recent Comic Relief, I’d give it a chance. In fact, I watched the entire thing even though I barely laughed. I was right: she likes to say things for shock value. She’s in love with herself too. And she sure loves to sing, which was actually the highlight of the show. I still like her show on Comedy Central much better, however. The song she sang about doodie in the eye in a recent episode was pretty damn funny. But that’s me: I like dick and fart jokes.

Comedians are a weird lot. Depending on the format they can either be hilarious or not so funny. Take Dave Chappelle for instance. On stage? Not funny. In movies? Funny. In his Comedy Central show? Pretty funny. Dane Cook is another one. On stage? Funny. In movies? Not so much. Although Carlos Mencia is a rarity as I find him funny both on stage and on his show, Mind of Mencia.

Speaking of Mencia and Cook, have you read all the controversy about them stealing other comics’ material? I’ve listened to different bits of theirs compared to the comics they allegedly stole from, and I have to admit, it does seem like a legitimate claim. On the other hand, is it really so shocking that one comedian will inadvertently pick up an idea from another? Isn’t that what they do? Study other comedians to hone their craft?

One of the accusations against Carlos Mencia was that he stole his joke about the wall they want to build at the U.S. and Mexico border from George Lopez. But hey, this is something that was in the news, and most people, non-comedians even, probably said the same thing: “who do you think they are going to get to build the wall?” Is that really stolen? You be the judge.

I’m not saying Mencia or Cook is innocent, I’m just saying there are only so many things to crack jokes about and you’re bound to have similar bits. And here’s some food for thought: if they are truly stealing some kick-ass material, then how come those comedians they are stealing from aren’t making the big bucks like they are? That’s because they have something those other guys lack – stage presence, charisma, and impeccable timing. As I compared a few jokes from both Dane Cook and Louis C.K., whom Dane has been accused of stealing from, I couldn’t help by remark to Joe, “Wow, this stuff really does sound alike, but Dane does it sooo much better”.

Sure, it doesn’t make it right, but that’s show business. Just kidding; it’s still wrong, but oh well. ;)
