Comments, rentals and packing

I’ve been meaning to do an informal survey here regarding responding to comments left on entries. Do you prefer if I a) respond to them privately via e-mail or b) respond by posting another comment? I feel torn because sometimes I think someone else reading might enjoy seeing my replies, but I’m not sure people who post go back to the older entries to check for further comments. So what’s your verdict?

Oh and by the way, I didn’t mean to insult rental cars by calling them smelly. The last rental car I had when my car was in the shop was actually brand new and smelled fine. That comment was tongue in cheek, although I didn’t care much for the rental cars we got on our Florida vacations, but that was years ago, so it could have changed. However, I still couldn’t possibly pack all my crap into a few pieces of luggage. The cameras, laptop, and equipment alone will take up enough space, not to mention all the clothes and toiletries. We’re even bringing the PS2 along. Like I said before, I’d rather have too many options for entertainment than not enough.

Bogus PayPal e-mail

Beware of this e-mail in your inbox because it is really good and really does look like it’s from PayPal, but if you mouse over the link, it doesn’t take you to PayPal’s site and the site you do go to is not secure! I forwarded it to PayPal’s fraud department and they responded back to confirm it is not them. Apparently this is the newer incarnation of fishing where it makes you think “Oh well they are asking I go to their site to update my account, so it must be legit.” Always beware the URL!!! If I was almost duped, I can only imagine how many less-informed people will fall for this.

eBay and the Egret

So we made a stop at the local post office today to send out some mail, including the Sea World Busch Gardens tickets I finally managed to sell on eBay. Even though they went for $152.50, after all the stupid eBay fees, Pay Pal’s cut for the credit card payment, and postage, it was closer to $130. Ugh!

The funny thing is that we wanted to buy a book of stamps and the man helping us looked a bit shocked, yet pleased, when Joe asked for the Egret stamps. As if no one could tell what kind of bird that was! Ok, to be fair, I was the one who told Joe “I want the Egret stamps”; he was going to ask for “the white bird stamps”. Of course, I didn’t realize it was the Snowy Egret. Well la-dee-da, aren’t we a fancy bird?! ;)

I’d be interested to see whether Joe’s son knows what it is. I think I’ll quiz him next time he visits. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets it right. He loves those animals. He watches the Discovery Channel and is a proud owner of the World Almanac for Kids.
