You can have the power

So anyone out there interested in redesigning my blog? I am rather tired of the look, but don’t have the motivation, nor the skills, to change the design. Are you up to it? If so, I will link to you. Haha, that’s all you get. Yea, I can see there won’t be many takers.

A tale of two companies

Every time Joe and I need to build a new computer, we order the majority of the parts from NewEgg because their prices are great. Their customer service, on the other hand, is not.

This last time we placed an order, the motherboard turned out to be defective. We shipped it back and they sent a replacement. I inquired as to whether I’d be reimbursed for the extra shipping cost (shipping them the bad board) and was told that their policy is not to reimburse for that. They explained it’s similar to the cost incurred if you had to take something back to the store. Not sure about you, but there’s no way in hell it’s gonna cost me $7 (what I paid UPS) to drive to a store to return an item. They did say, however, they’d make an exception and reimburse me a portion of the shipping cost if I faxed them a copy of the shipping receipt. Well I didn’t bother because a) they didn’t tell me what portion they would reimburse ($1, $0.50, $4 – how am I to know?) and b) the fax number was long distance. So that was strike #1 against them.

Boring!

Ok, I’ve been trying to find some new, interesting journals to read, and it’s just not working. Why does it seem like every journal I come across tonight is either written by someone who hasn’t updated in a month, or someone talking non-stop about their children? I don’t begrudge anyone who has children and writes about them constantly – it’s your prerogative, and trust me, I’d probably be writing about my cat all the time if I had one, but I’m just not interested in reading journals about kids.

Perhaps the lack of reading material is an indication that I’ve been online too long. I would go to bed, but it’s Sunday night, and I hate giving into Mondays, so I tend to stay up later than normal in a futile attempt to put off the inevitable.

Oh and speaking of being online, my brother has decided he wants to join the rest of the world and get a computer and internet access. He’s completely computer illiterate, yet due to the amount of money he has allotted for us to build him a machine, he’s going to own a computer that puts mine to shame. The good news, however, is that I will never ever ever have to burn another cd for him for as long as I live. And that is a very good thing™.

We’re back!

We’ve moved to the new server and everything should be a go. If anything still looks weird, please let me know. Hopefully there won’t be anymore downtime now that we have a new host.

Hosting Issues Revisited

I think I pissed off my current hosting company. God forbid I tell it like it is, i.e. I told them I think their service blows. They moved my account to a new server. Interestingly enough, it’s called jailshell. Hmmm …

No worries, though. I signed up at No Hassle Hosting, and since I “know” (via the Internet) the person who runs it, I’m sure I won’t be having the issues I had before. If anything seems screwy around here over the next couple of days, that’s because I’m moving stuff to my new account. Especially in the photos section, where I have to set up the virtual links.
