Gifts from hubby

Yesterday morning when I went into the bathroom to brush my teeth, I found sunflowers in a vase sitting on the sink… a Sweetest Day gift from Joe. He always manages to surprise me with flowers when I least expect it.

Speaking of surprises, despite saying we were not going to exchange gifts for our anniversary, which is tomorrow, Joe got me two gifts and was so excited, had me open them today. The first one was a puzzle of a beach, to remind me of our wedding, and also because paper is the traditional gift for the first anniversary. The second gift was a Nintendo DS Lite, in black, and as Joe pointed out, the modern gift for the first anniversary is clocks, of which the Nintendo DS has. My hubby is so clever!

He wasn’t sure what game to buy me, so he picked up Catz, but since it’s really meant for the Gameboy Advance, it lacks cool graphics or touch-screen capability so we took it back and got Brain Age instead. I’m embarrassed to report on my first training I got a brain age of 70. On the second one I got 56. At least I’m improving! It also has Sudoku on it which I never played before. I’ve been perusing Walmart.com for other DS games and have a list of eight games I want already, some of which haven’t even been released yet (including the DS version of Catz).

My husband is awesome, and I am a terrible wife for not getting him a gift. I should have known he wasn’t going to stick to our agreement. I have to do better for Christmas in order to redeem myself!

Joey’s Birthday

We had such a busy evening after work yesterday. I didn’t even have time to read any blogs! It was Joe’s birthday, so I had to run to the store during my lunch to get a card and a gift because I’m a bad wife and never know what to get him which is partially his fault for not being materialistic enough. I had ordered him a White Sox World Series baseball card set on Saturday and it was delivered on Wednesday. I was impressed; UPS seems to be on fire lately!

I didn’t want that to be his only gift, so I looked around Walmart for something cute and found a 500 piece Star Wars puzzle. I would have preferred 1000 pieces, but it’s double-sided which is cool, and should provide more of a challenge.

While I was at the hell hole known as Walmart, I picked up some chew sticks for Peanut. You should have seen her last night trying to drag this huge piece of wood into her den. I also got a box of dice (or is it die?) since we never seem to have enough when we’re playing board games.

After work I rushed home to beat Joe so I could wrap his gifts. I made him open them before we went to dinner at his favorite place, Red Lobster. He got his usual: shrimp pasta. I got a trio platter with scampi, popcorn and coconut shrimp. We also had shrimp cocktail for an appetizer. They have the best cocktail sauce! It’s very tangy!

After dinner we came home and cleaned since my parents wanted to visit today. I hate cleaning but love how nice the place looks after the fact.

I baked strawberry cupcakes while we watched the copy of Old School we just bought. I love that movie so much! It seems more funny every time I watch it. When I went to frost the cupcakes, I couldn’t use the buttercream frosting we had bought because it was already open and someone had stuck their finger in it. Gross!!! Who would do something like that? I wouldn’t even think to check under the lid since there’s that foil seal. But it was broken and some frosting was missing. Luckily we had some vanilla frosting we had bought for the girl’s upcoming birthday so we used that instead.

I fed Peanut, hopped on the computer for five minutes to do a few quick things, then headed upstairs with the birthday boy. This weekend is looking to be much cooler temperature-wise than we’ve had in awhile. We don’t have any set plans other than seeing Will Ferrell’s new movie. Should be fun!

3 days left (boo-hoo)

Know what time of my vacation it is? The time where it’s just like any other three day weekend. Ugh. That means we are getting waaaaay too close to going back to work. If only I could find a way to earn money without actually doing anything. I am soooo not looking forward to all the stress of answering tons of e-mail (I predict at least 50 messages directed to me personally) and getting the end of the month invoicing done in a two day time period. I’m stressing just thinking about it. Luckily I have three more days before having to live it.

Have I mentioned here that I have the best husband ever? I really feel for the ladies out there who write about their lazy husbands sitting around watching tv and drinking beer instead of helping around the house or with the kids. My husband does watch a lot of tv, and he also drinks, but only after he has worked his butt off. The last three days alone he remodeled our laundry room (pictures forthcoming as soon as he puts in the new molding), cleaned/organized the garage and added new shelving to both. He just washed my car and is now washing his truck, and he plans on waxing my car tomorrow. Did I have to ask him to do any of these things? No. And that’s the best part: I never have to nag him to do anything. My mom asks me what’s my secret. I don’t have one other than finding a man who loves me and does things for us because he cares. One who is worthy of being called a man. Those other guys? I’m sorry to say they have some growing up to do. And don’t get me wrong, we act like complete fools a lot of the time, which just goes to show you that you can be responsible and immature. It just requires a little balance.

Gifts

If you check my Flickr account, you may already know I got #2 on my Ultimate Wish List from Joe for Christmas. It’s not the exact one I wrote about, but I picked that one for it’s price, not performance, so I trust Joe’s judgment. So far, it’s great, so I don’t care. It was a great deal too: only $229 after rebate.

We went to Target on Christmas Eve and picked up a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse in black to complete the look. The keyboard has these hot keys at the top that can be programmed to launch different programs on a single push. Although I didn’t buy it for that reason, they are pretty neat. The mute and volume buttons are especially helpful. Plus it’s nice to kick back and type from my lap when chatting.

I am very pleased with the new monitor as well, although it is taking me a bit to get used to how bright the screen is and the 1280 x 1024 resolution I’m forced to use as anything else looks fuzzy on the lcd. I hear that’s nothing new, but I wasn’t expecting it. I definitely have more screen real estate now, however, so there is a bright side to that.

In addition to the monitor, Joe also got me a foot spa, two cds, some candy, a yo-yo, and an unauthorized 2-DVD Cure biography which I haven’t watched yet as I’m hoping we’ll be getting a home theatre system soon. My husband is just so good to me!

I feel rather bad since I didn’t get as much for Joe because he forbid me to buy him a guitar like I wanted to. So he got a book of Sudoku, The Chronicles of Narnia hard-cover, a Sox World Series gold coin, and something else that has yet to even ship. Before he purchased the monitor we had spent the same amount of money on one another, but now I feel like an ass for getting more presents. I keep telling him he better get a guitar soon!

Happy Birthday to my Sleepyfroggie

Today is Joe’s birthday! He is 36 years old. Better him than me! Haha! At least I’m still in my twenties (barely). I can’t wait til next year when he turns 37 and I can yell “37!” all the time (you have had to see the movie Clerks to get that reference).

We both worked today because a) Joe doesn’t get into celebrating birthdays like I do (although I make him do it anyway and I think he secretly enjoys it) and b) we don’t have any vacation time since it’s all slated away for the wedding.

After work, and after Joe opened his present from me (I got him a Norelco razor; sounds lame, but he liked it) we went out to eat. And since we’re trying to be good and lose weight, tone up, whatever, we couldn’t justify Lonestar Steakhouse or Red Lobster. An average meal there HAS to be AT LEAST 1500 calories. I’m only supposed to eat 1300 all day if I want to lose weight. Bah!

So we ended up at a new Taco Bell/Long John Silvers. We had coupons for the latter and it’s been months since we’ve had their delicious chicken planks (only 140 calories a piece, people, so I had three and still did good). Of course Joe splurged a bit more and had some fish, fries, and hush puppies. I snagged a few of his fries but calories on someone else’s plate, on their birthday no less, don’t count you know.

Then we stopped at Dairy Queen and Joe got a Snickers Blizzard. Me? I had a sudden case of will power and got nothing. Did you read that? Nada! Not the Oreo Blizzard I love, nor the Brownie Earthquake, or the Mint Oreo I’m sure I would love if I ever tried it. I was even going to have some Edy’s Grand Light when we got home but never got around to it. And I’m ok with that.

Now, I better get to bed!
