Duh

I bought a really cute water bottle from Target the other day so I could keep my Crystal Light cold while at the office, and possibly cut down on buying all those water bottles which are bad for the environment.

The new bottle holds 24 oz., so I filled it up and added two of the lemonade-flavored water bottle packets to it. Well, I took my first sip yesterday morning and it tasted funny to me. I thought maybe I was tasting the plastic of the bottle, but it really didn’t have a smell to it when I purchased it. So then I started getting paranoid that the gel inside the fake ice cube stick it comes with was leaking into the drink because it tasted way too sweet.

It didn’t occur to me until later in the day that the average water bottle is 16.9 oz., not 12 oz. like I had assumed, so I had added enough sweetener to flavor nearly 34 oz. of water. No wonder it tasted horrible! Sometimes I swear I’m not that bright.

Home again

We’re back from our little trip! I have lots of photos to share, so I’ll be working on those along with my summary of how our mini vacation went. Hopefully most, if not all, will be up by tonight. After spending three days in the heat I have no intention of going back outside until tomorrow.

On vacation

I’m so happy to be on vacation! Yes, it’s only 5 days away from work, but those are 5 desperately needed days. I was *this close* to ripping someone’s head off today. But now I’m at home feeling much better after our walk.

Although we were almost attacked by two very pissed off robins. A baby robin was hopping along the sidewalk and apparently we got too close because suddenly two adult robins were chirping up a storm and flying past our heads. Even as we continued away from the baby robin they kept hopping through the trees following us and chirping loudly. I’ve never seen anything like it before. I have no doubt had we actually touched the baby robin, we’d be dead with our eyes pecked out. Those were some fiercely protective parents, let me tell you.

So back to the relaxing. The house is super clean thanks to the hubby who has all this week off. Yesterday he cleaned the bathrooms, washed the floors, did a bunch of laundry (he even washed all our linens), and went to the store. I haven’t had to lift a finger. I came home tonight to chicken with potatoes in the crock pot. It was good too. I love and appreciate my hubby every day, but he gets mega points for all that.

Tomorrow is our 4th of July BBQ, although it might be an indoor one the way the weather forecast is looking. Then Thursday we’re off to Indianapolis to visit the Indy Zoo and some other sites that are still undetermined. I am so excited to visit the zoo’s dolphin dome, you don’t even know! I also can’t wait to see all the butterflies in the gardens nearby. I better go clear my memory cards and charge some batteries while I’m thinking about it.

Movie weekend

It’s been a pretty nice weekend. We had lots of fun and the weather has been gorgeous.

We only had The Boy this time because The Girl was at camp. Yesterday we saw the first showing of Surf’s Up which Joe and I really enjoyed. The Boy liked it too, but I think we liked it more thanks to the adult jokes that went over the kiddies’ heads. Afterwards we had lunch at Portillo’s. Since we’re trying to eat better and losing weight (I’m down 8 lbs. since May, Joe is down something like 20 lbs, the jerk), we skipped the fries. We still had the beef sandwich, however for dinner we had grilled chicken breast to even everything out.

After dropping The Boy off this morning we saw Live Free or Die Hard. I enjoyed it a lot. It wasn’t a movie we had originally planned on seeing until we caught the previews a few weeks ago. I love action films and that kid from Dodgeball and the Apple commercials cracks me up.

We stopped at Target this afternoon to pick up our 4th of July supplies. We got two different kinds of hot dog and hamburger buns, hamburger patties, hot dogs, t-bones, and the usual condiments. My mom is supplying the chips and potato salad. We also got the kids those snappers you throw at the ground. I’m really looking forward to Wednesday and the rest of the week. I only have to work two days this week and then I get to have five days of non-stop fun. Joe is off all week so he’s cleaning the house tomorrow so I’m off the hook for that too. It’s going to be a great week, especially if I can wear my new dress…

Last night I was ordering a shirt online at Sears for The Girl when I decided if I was going to pay shipping anyway, I might as well maximize my order. So I also ordered a cute purple and black bra and two pairs of thongs that have the fabric between the toes instead of the hard plastic. I’m hoping those will be comfortable and figured I’d take my chances since the white pair (Sketchers) were marked down to $10.50 from $30 and the other pair, which are brown, only cost $2.50. The second pair were available for pickup at the store so I’ll be getting those tomorrow or Tuesday. I’m hoping they match my new dress since I haven’t been able to find any decent shoes thus far.

Vacation Planned

OMG, this has been such a busy week already! I haven’t even been on my home computer since Sunday morning. I realize it’s only Tuesday, but that’s a record for me. I’ve haven’t had any time to read blogs and the rest of the week is shaping up to be just as hectic, so I won’t have a chance to catch up until the weekend.

I did take time, however, to book our hotel for our upcoming Indianapolis visit. I’ve also worked out what we’d like to do while there, including what restaurants we must try. I’m most looking forward to visiting the zoo, of course.

Can I just say how much I love Indy’s tourism site? It has got to be one of the best I’ve seen. Chicago should really take notice. Not only is the information categorized well, you can search by keyword and get relevant results. For the restaurants it gives you an idea of the menu prices which is helpful.

My favorite part is that each attraction (hotels and restaurants too) has a “Map Item” option. Once you’ve mapped all the places you’re interested in, you can view the map and print it. Everything is plotted on the map and numbered, and underneath the map is a legend with full descriptions and website addresses of the places you’ve chosen. Awesome! I totally geek out on stuff like that. I’m really looking forward to our little getaway.

But now it’s time to go to bed.
