No Indiana Beach

As you can tell by the timestamp on this post (on the permanent link), we didn’t go to Indiana Beach. I am very disappointed by this, but we didn’t feel like driving two hours each way just to hang out in the cold. It’s only in the 60’s today and cloudy. Throw a lake breeze into that mix and brrrr!!! I’m really getting tired of Mother Nature interfering with my plans. Next weekend? 90’s. But we have the kids. Why does this keep happening? It’s some cruel joke, right?

We ended up sleeping til 10:30 am. Wasn’t much point in getting out of bed. Joe made french toast and we haven’t done anything else except look at the Sunday paper. Haven’t even showered. I feel like I’m wasting my weekend away. I want to go out and have fun but what is there to do? I don’t feel like going to the movies and I feel as if we’ve covered all the good nature-related sites in the area for photography. Ugh, I’m in a rut and I need out!

I guess I’ll go take a shower, but if anyone is reading this, suggestions are welcome. Kevin, maybe you know of some nice places out your way. We’ve been to that little (disappointing) “zoo” in Aurora already, but I’m so bored I’m tempted to convince Joe to drive us there anyway. Even though it’s “cold” out. There’s a Fuddrucker’s on the way back. Heh, like I need to be eating anymore fattening food this weekend. I probably gained 5 lbs. this weekend just from the brownies and chips I ate on Friday night.

Game Night & Saturday Plans

Game Night was SO MUCH FUN! Seriously, I haven’t had that much fun with someone other than Joe in a long time. I only invited two people because I am very particular about who I spend time with … I don’t like being uncomfortable in social settings. Anyway, I almost thought that E, my friend (and boss!), wasn’t going to make it because she’s been having the week from hell, but she did show up a little later after we had eaten dinner and she ate while we played Aggravation. My other friend, C, left around 9 pm. I was worried that maybe she wasn’t having fun since we kept quoting Friends episodes and she’s not a fanatic, but I think maybe it was because she’s older than the rest of us and goes to bed around 10 pm, even on weekends. She did look pretty tired when she left too. I love her and I really hope she had fun! I would hate it if someone didn’t enjoy themselves at my place.

After C left, we watched some baseball and played Yahtzee. When you get me and E together, we revert to 12 year olds. It’s pretty scary, especially if we start acting like that at work. Plus we (yes, we, not just me) have foul mouths. I was mildly concerned we might be disturbing the neighbors since the patio door was open but I really didn’t care since they are always bothering us. Interestingly enough, I didn’t hear the annoying dog bark once so they probably were out and took him with (otherwise he barks the entire time they are gone). Figures. The rare time I can irritate them and they aren’t even home!

E stayed til about midnight and then Joe and I surfed online til about 1:30 am before going to bed. We slept in until 11 am and I felt hung over even though unlike Joe and E, I didn’t have any alcohol at all! We haven’t done much since getting up other than shower and eat lunch, but I think we might head to Marshall Field’s in a bit since I’ve got some decent coupons and wanted to buy this cologne we tried that smells awesome on Joe. I’d also like to look at some shoes. Tomorrow we’re going to Indiana Beach, just the two of us, to check out their cottages. We’re thinking of renting one for a night and taking the kids later in the summer. Can’t wait to have some of their yummy tacos. And you thought I went for the rides. Well maybe, but I want to play some skeeball too!

3 days left (boo-hoo)

Know what time of my vacation it is? The time where it’s just like any other three day weekend. Ugh. That means we are getting waaaaay too close to going back to work. If only I could find a way to earn money without actually doing anything. I am soooo not looking forward to all the stress of answering tons of e-mail (I predict at least 50 messages directed to me personally) and getting the end of the month invoicing done in a two day time period. I’m stressing just thinking about it. Luckily I have three more days before having to live it.

Have I mentioned here that I have the best husband ever? I really feel for the ladies out there who write about their lazy husbands sitting around watching tv and drinking beer instead of helping around the house or with the kids. My husband does watch a lot of tv, and he also drinks, but only after he has worked his butt off. The last three days alone he remodeled our laundry room (pictures forthcoming as soon as he puts in the new molding), cleaned/organized the garage and added new shelving to both. He just washed my car and is now washing his truck, and he plans on waxing my car tomorrow. Did I have to ask him to do any of these things? No. And that’s the best part: I never have to nag him to do anything. My mom asks me what’s my secret. I don’t have one other than finding a man who loves me and does things for us because he cares. One who is worthy of being called a man. Those other guys? I’m sorry to say they have some growing up to do. And don’t get me wrong, we act like complete fools a lot of the time, which just goes to show you that you can be responsible and immature. It just requires a little balance.

Strawberry-licious

Sometimes the simplest things can make you feel like a kid again. I haven’t had a McDonald’s strawberry sundae for close to 15 years but something possessed me today to get one. It still tastes just like I remember it: yummy! And at 280 calories, not a complete diet buster either. The best part? It was only $1. This could be the beginning of a very bad habit …

Tuesday

Forgot to mention that on our way home from the zoo Monday we saw the military helicopters fly overhead reminding us that the President was in town. I wasn’t able to get my camera out quick enough, but there were three and they were cool. We were passing O’Hare airport on the expressway when it happened.

Anyway, yesterday we ventured over to the god forsaken mall. My mission was to buy one Grumpy Bear messenger bag from Hot Topic as seen at Diner Bitch’s site. It wasn’t meant to be; there were none. :'(

I ended up buying these fantastical brown dress pants from New York & Company on clearance; they were only $8! Talk about a steal. I paid $25 for the same pants (in black) just weeks ago.

That was my exciting Tuesday with a trip to Walmart thrown in. Oh and a lunch at Lonestar steakhouse. I love their dinner salads so I got the chicken breast with salad. I was really impressed with the seasoning they used on the chicken too. Most places the chicken is just flavorless, and frankly I was expecting the same but ordered it because I don’t want to completely blow up during vacation, but it was surprisingly yummy.

Oh and we saw the new neighbors who moved in next door. Or at least some of their family. We can’t decide since our old neighbors said they were a foreign couple with a 10-year-old, but we saw some foreign women (looked and sounded French according to Joe) running out back chasing after two toddlers. Not sure if they live there or were visiting. Joe said the man smokes. Lucky us. I swear, we always win the neighbor lottery. We’ve got smokers with a loud dog on one side and smokers (possibly with screaming toddlers) on the other. Yay us! I can’t wait to move in approximately 7 years because our next house won’t have neighbors within yelling distance. I don’t care what it takes, I’m not living next to people again.
