Overdue, my ass

I was falling asleep on the couch just a bit ago, but now I’m wide awake because I’m angry. I just logged into my library account to renew two books I have out and it says I have overdue fines because they claim I didn’t return two of the six cds I borrowed. Then I checked Joe’s account and it says that all five cds that he checked out are still MIA as well. WTF?!?

They were due on the 16th and we returned them the evening beforehand. It’s not my problem that they gave us bubble-wrap mailers to cart them around in and their return “bin” is really a table on the other side of a large slot, meaning someone could easily just grab them and take off with them while they are still listed as being with us.

I won’t pay them a cent over this, you can mark my words. I don’t care if they suspend my account and the fines rack up and show up on my credit report. I won’t pay for cds I returned. This was the first time we even checked out any materials and already we’re having issues. I knew there wasn’t something right about that place. It’s about 10 years behind our old library. I’d consider that maybe their computer system is wrong, but it’s odd that the other four cds I checked out have been accounted for. So the only thing I can guess is that someone stole the cds we checked out before they were checked in.

Tomorrow’s phone call should prove to be interesting. I will have to try and remain calm, but I’m seething at the moment. I don’t like being in this position; where I know I didn’t do anything wrong but don’t have the means to prove it.

Carpet and shopping

I’m like a kid on Christmas morning – I can’t sleep. And why? Because I want to go shopping! Now that the new carpet is in, the ugly blue shades in the living room do not match at all. Oh and by the way, the carpet installers didn’t leave until just after 7 pm last night, making the installation last 10 hours. Yikes! For all that time they spent here, you’d think they would have done a better job. I’m not saying it doesn’t look good, but there are a few things that look a bit sloppy and if you don’t know anything else about me, know this – I am a perfectionist and I expect the same from others. Especially when I’m spending over $1000 to have it done. That being said, I’m sure it is fine and I’m just expecting too much. While I wouldn’t warn people against Home Depot for carpet installation, I will try someone else next time I need some installed. For variety, you know.

So anyway, back to the shopping. Joe doesn’t want to be out all day, so I have to see how many stores I can cram in between now and noon. I’m trying to plan the day according to the times the stores open. We need groceries, so we might take care of that first so we can drop them off at home and head back out in the opposite direction. There’s toys on sale at K-Mart so I want to look for the kids’ Christmas presents before I just say forget it and order it all online. I have to take back my tight shoes. We need ice cream from Target (their brand of ice cream in New York vanilla is delicious, and I’m not even that fond of vanilla). And last but not least, a new Lowes store just opened this weekend not very far from us, so I want to check it out and price their blinds so come January this place will be done.

Now if only that damn alarm would go off already so that Joe would wake up. Uh oh, I just heard him walking around and the alarm hasn’t gone off yet. He’s coming to get me! ;)

Carpeting

There’s a reason why I like going out on weekends – it’s boring being at home all day. We’ve been holed up in our bedroom since 9 am because that’s when the carpet installers arrived. Seven hours later, they’re still here. I knew this would take a few hours, but even I thought they’d be done by now. And I am so bored. There’s only so many things to look at online and there’s really nothing worth watching on cable. I wish they’d be done already so I could enjoy the new carpet smell in peace. Plus I’m really sick of sitting on the bed. :p

Frustrated

Ugh, I hate how it’s after 9 pm and I’m just sitting down to relax. Don’t you hate it when you try to get ahead of the game and end up behind instead? When I got home I took a bath to relax a bit, then attempted to bake two batches of brownies (see previous entry), then had to run out to the store, then made food, and now I’m here. I wanted to watch tv, read my book, and surf, but time is running out. I also wanted to get to bed at a decent time, but I’m not even sure I should bother. Last night we went to bed at 10 pm and were excited at the prospect of getting extra sleep since we’re usually in bed after 11 pm. So what happened? We both woke up at 4 am and tossed and turned until Joe’s alarm went off at 5:30. And of course I fell asleep during the fifteen minutes between his alarm and mine. Isn’t that always the way? Damn this day!

Gas ovens suck

I hate our gas oven. Ever since I’ve been out on my own, I’ve had electric stoves. I’ve learned to cook on them and I like them. And as soon as we can afford one, that’s what I’m buying for our place.

This gas oven burnt the top of the brownies I was baking and left the insides uncooked. This has never happened before. I was making them for our Thanksgiving feast at work tomorrow. So I had to run out and get some brownies. Target didn’t have any; I ended up spending $8 at Dominicks on brownie bites. They could at least had some frosting on them for that price. Granted, there’s 2 lbs., but still.

If one person says something tomorrow about how I didn’t bake the brownies, they are getting a foot up their ass. That includes you especially.
