Rats, Shopping, and 24

Templeton

Templeton says hi! He and Nutterbutter are doing well. They’ve been moved up to K’s room (hence the blue carpeting) until Spring since their regular space in front of the fireplace gets drafty in the Winter.

We did our little once in awhile Sunday circuit this morning which included breakfast and shopping at IKEA, a stop at Petland to see all the furry pets, and Bed Bath & Beyond. At IKEA we purchased some more ceramic bowls (in purple and blue) as part of my quest to rid the house of plastic-ware. I also got two smaller light purple glass bowls which would be perfect for ice cream since you can’t fit more than a few scoops in them. I need something to help me moderate my snacking!

Bed Bath & Beyond is where I finally found something to cook a single egg with so that I can put together my own egg and cheese McMuffin. I’m becoming addicted to McDonald’s but they are $2.87 with tax and I know I can make them myself cheaper than that. I couldn’t decide between this single fry pan and these egg rings, so I got both.

We almost ended up getting another hamster too. I know, after I already said I’m done with hamsters. But this one wasn’t only cute, it was friendly and calm! The opposite of Oreo. It had longer fur but we could hold it without it squirming and trying to get away. We took turns petting it while the other held it and it wasn’t fazed at all. It was very tempting to get it but I’m rather tired of the weekly cage cleanings we have to do as it is so I decided to wait for now. Maybe after Oreo has passed on I may give another hamster a shot now that I know some nice ones exist out there.

We found ourselves in downtown Geneva in the afternoon so we could check out a record store I had read about on Yelp. I even scored a Cure LP! Then we decided to check out a new restaurant for lunch but as luck would have it, all the best reviewed places aren’t open on Sundays so we ate lunch at a cute Mexican place in St. Charles instead.

In other news, I found out that Case-Mate has a site where you can design your own iPhone case. It’s a bit pricey, but then again, it’s a one of a kind case. I’m not sure if I’m going to order one, but I sure had fun designing a few of my own.

Why do the weekends always fly by? I know, stupid question. At least we’ve got the season premiere of 24 tonight! Jack is back! I’m going to nosh on Joe’s homemade chicken & dumplings while we watch.

My Birthday

My 34th birthday was a week ago and I’ve gotten so used to not being able to take my birthday off from work that even though this was the first time in years I could have taken a vacation day, I didn’t bother. My reasoning was that a) it was cold and crappy outside anyway and b) I’d just have to go back to work on Friday and work even harder to get caught up from losing a day. So not worth it.

I started reconsidering that decision when I learned we were getting hit with some snow Wednesday evening into Thursday, but Joe and I decided he’d just drive me to work since the Escape has four wheel drive.

While I was in the shower he put two gifts on the sink that I discovered as I was drying off.

Inside were two very pretty necklaces. One is a sterling silver heart and the other is purple cubic zirconium shaped like a flower. I wore the purple one into work as I just so happened to have chosen to wear an outfit that matched.

After work we stopped at Blockbuster to rent a movie (Away We Go, which was not very good) and pick up a pizza from Lou Malnati’s. With the crazy weather I wasn’t up for a dinner at a restaurant.

After the movie I opened my presents.

Birthday Presents

I’m pretty disappointed with the CDs. It’s not Joe’s fault; I had them on my Amazon wish list. I just don’t know what I was thinking with The Cure tribute album as most of the songs are terrible. As for the Fatboy Slim CD, we both thought it was the same concert as the DVD we own, but it’s not. So that sucks.

Also one of my iPhone cases doesn’t fit quite right, but I contacted the manufacturer and they are willing to send me a replacement so that’s good. I really love iFrogz! I was thinking about buying a case from them for my iPod, but I’d rather have this skin instead.

I’m pretty excited about my DVD even though I haven’t gotten around to opening it just yet. I used to love The State so many years ago. I remember watching it at my grandparents’ house since my parents never had cable. Maybe I’ll check it out this weekend since we’re kid/plans free. We’re doing dinner and BINGO with friends tomorrow night, but Saturday and Sunday are wide open.

Resolution-less

Didn’t I write something before about making it a goal to post an entry a day? Geez, way to break a “resolution” right from the start, huh?

Well, in my defense, I’m not the only person who can’t keep their resolutions.

Ok, so let’s be more realistic. I will make an effort to post more frequently, but I’m not going to set down any hard and fast rules. Same goes for the fact that once I’m done using all the coupons I’ve been getting for my birthday for free food, I’m going to start eating better and exercising. I can’t say exercising more since I’ve really not been exercising at all.

I’m not looking forward to going back to work and actually having to be there all five days. Yuck! I have to work on my birthday too. I guess I could take it off, but what would be the point? It’s on a Thursday and I’d have to work Friday anyway, and probably more furiously to make up for missing Thursday. No thanks. Maybe next year when my birthday is on a Friday I will take the day off.
