Whenever tax season rolls around, we jump at the chance to file as quickly as possible. This year was no exception. This week both our state and federal returns were automatically deposited to our bank account. Seventy-five percent of that money went toward paying off my Jetta (yay for no more car payments!), and the rest went into our money market and the kids’ savings accounts.
Having that extra cash in the bank made it a lot easier for me to finally convince Joe to go out and buy the guitar he’s been wanting for the last two years. We headed over to Guitar Center this afternoon and I was shocked that he didn’t even hesitate on the purchase. I know how he is. He never likes spending money on himself, but after the thousands I’ve spent in camera equipment, and our new plasma HDTV, what’s $300?
Once the initial excitement wears off, I think I’ll get a chance to play it too. Not that I know how. I’m not sure I have the discipline to learn either. But maybe I can become good at copying popular songs like my brother, who has owned the same guitar for a few years now. My brother’s refusal to learn anything by The Cure infuriates me, but maybe I’ll have better luck at getting Joe to do a Robert Smith impersonation. ;)
What do you plan on doing with your tax return?
What is that, a Strat Pak? Cool. Looks like a lot of fun. We have a Strat and an amp around for fun. I also plug mine into my Mac to record stuff in GarageBand.
Learning some basics and then playing along to popular songs is a lot of fun. I’ve done that a lot over the years and have a “cheat sheet” – all you need are a few notes to yourself to remember how to play a song years later.
Too bad your brother wouldn’t learn anything by The Cure! It’s not too hard, and the songs are different from typical bash-your-guitar rock songs. :-)
At this point in time, I’m just praying I have a return. This is our first full year in our townhouse, so I’m not sure what to expect.
Which is why I love The Cure you know – they aren’t the typical bash-your-guitar kind of band. My brother’s complaint was that The Cure songs were always in tabs, but Joe is looking at them now and from the way he explained it, the tabs seem easier to play than the chords. I told him he has some studying to do.
