I caught a couple of 2007 movies on cable this week. Here are my quick and dirty reviews.
Vacancy – Started off a little slow but ultimately much better than I had anticipated considering Luke Wilson seems to be the kiss of death for most movies (except Old School which rocks).
Next – Another pleasant surprise that even sucked Joe in. I’m not a big Nicholas Cage fan but he’s definitely a good actor. I couldn’t even imagine seeing two minutes into the future. That would totally fuck with the present, don’t you think?
Lucky You – Terribly boring; even Drew Barrymore couldn’t make this enjoyable. I can’t see anyone but a hardcore poker player enjoying this movie as most of it was just people playing poker. *Yawn*. There was a two-second shot of Antonio Esfandiari in it, though. That was the highlight, actually. Phil Laak wasn’t in it. And no, I don’t know either of them from watching the World Poker Tour; I just like their show, I Bet You.
I have this huge adoration of Nicolas Cage. Not because I think he’s hot or anything, just because I think he’s crazy and therefore, awesome. Anyway, I saw Next at the theater during a matinée or something and really rather liked it. I’d totally forgotten about it until just now.
Thanks for the heads up on Lucky You. I was debating TiFauxing it but I think I’ll just stick to Music and Lyrics. At least I already know that with that one, I get PoP! Goes My Heart ;)
I agree, I thought Vacancy was surprisingly good compared to how bad I thought it would be. I also thought Next would be terrible, just because I don’t like movies that are so unrealistic, but both Scott and I really liked it. And Lucky You definitely sucked. I can’t believe to good, well known actors, made such a boring movie.
