I get the distinct feeling that someone doesn’t want me to own two Bettas simultaneously. See … the weekend prior to last we bought a blue betta that we named Jake. He was very alert and looked perfectly healthy. But he acted strange after we brought him home. He would float at the top or rest at the bottom perfectly motionless. I could actually touch him when he was at the surface and he wouldn’t even move. Then after awhile he’d “wake up” and start swimming, or more like darting, around the bowl. I kept checking his fins and eyes and he looked fine. So imagine my surprise when we found him at the bottom of his bowl on Saturday evening, all white and nasty looking. Ick. Poor guy.
I don’t think it was anything I did. I bought him a brand new bowl, used brand new rocks, and even got a new net for him because my current Betta was getting over a case of pop-eye. So I’m guessing he just had a parasite and there wasn’t anything I could have done. I nursed my current Betta from the brink of death so I’m pretty good at taking care of my fishies. But I feel sorry for poor Jake. Only a week of freedom from the pet store and now he’s dead. R.I.P.
I just have to ask– you didn’t have them both in the SAME bowl, did you?
I emailed my response to Candi, but in case anyone else is checking this – no, I didn’t put the Bettas together. I know better than that. :)
