Smelly little buggers

The mice are stinky! Even worse than my hamsters. I’ve done some research and apparently it’s their urine which hopefully improves because they are too cute to consider taking back to the pet store, although admittedly I did entertain the thought briefly. But that wouldn’t be very responsible of me, and considering their life-spans are short (only 1-2 years) I am dedicated to taking care of them regardless of the outcome.

I’ve been putting Bi-Odor in their water which seemed to help with the rats plus I read they might be excessively marking their territory until they get adjusted to their new surroundings.

I’m buying a new wheel for them today. The Wodent Wheel is a total pain to clean and because mice are incontinent they just poo and pee in the wheel like you wouldn’t believe. It’s pretty disgusting actually. The wheel has to be cleaned daily which requires taking it apart and the pin that holds it all together is a bitch to get back in. I put an old wheel in there temporarily but it’s really squeaky and not the best type to use for their little feet which is why I’ll be replacing it.

Yesterday I used the toad’s lamp to illuminate their cage so I could get some decent pictures of them.

They move so fast that it’s difficult to get any blurry-free shots but the light really helped things. We also took them out of the cage and put them in a playpen last night so the kids could interact with them. They, of course, pooped everywhere because they were scared.

Clearly I did not do my research before purchasing them, but they are super cute and entertaining so I don’t really regret my impulse buy.
