Urologist

I brought my kidney stone to the Urologist today and as I suspected, he thinks it’s made of excess calcium although it was sent to a lab to confirm.

The doctor gave me a lot of dietary advice like eat a low sodium diet (uh, my middle name is salt) and avoid certain foods and dammit, I’m not going to do that. Between that diet and the diet I’m supposed to follow for my bladder condition I could barely eat anything enjoyable. Plus some of the foods I’ve been told to avoid – chocolate, nuts, and cheese – are generally good for you and may be responsible for my having a good heart. I’d rather have another kidney stone than heart disease, thank you very much.

He also told me to cut back on the vitamin D I’m taking (even though I was taking it because mine levels were low not to mention Vitamin D is one of the best vitamins for overall health) and that I should add potassium citrate to my diet but didn’t suggest a supplement. No, he suggested I drink Crystal Light lemon-aid. Again, no thanks. That has chemically created sugars which also irritate my bladder, as does drinking more water which was the other recommendation. I will try to increase my overall water consumption but I’ve grown accustomed to not drinking because liquids flow right through me and I spend way too much time in the bathroom.

Speaking of, I was sent to the lab for more bloodwork and to also pick up supplies to do a 24 hour urine test. Since I’m not seeing the doctor again until January I plan to do the urine thing the weekend of Thanksgiving since I’ll need to be at home if they want me to collect all my pee for 24 hours straight. This is for them to see what it’s made of I guess. Wow, can’t wait for happy pee pee fun time.
